Dress donation

Cardinal Healthcare in Lincolnton is collecting new and gently-used prom dresses, formal shoes and jewelry throughout February and March. Donations may be dropped of at 931 N. Aspen St. For more information, call (704) 732-7055.

Kindergarten registration

Registration is now open in Lincoln County for kindergarten and 1st grades. Parents must register a child at the school he/she will be attending during the 2013-14 school year. For more information, call (704) 732-2261 or email gwalker@lincoln.k12.nc.us.

LAHRA meeting

The Lincolnton Area Human Resources Association (LAHRA) will meet 11:45 a.m. at Homesteads Grill & Taphouse in Lincolnton. Spay/neuter registration

The Humane Society of Lincoln County will host registration for a low-cost spay/neuter clinic 1-4 p.m. at 2422 Country Club Rd. in Lincolnton. The clinic will be March 4. Special Olympics

Special Olympics of Lincoln County will host its annual bowling competition with opening ceremonies starting 9:30 a.m. at Pin Station in Newton. For more information, call Jeff Leonhardt at (704) 736-1017 ext. 32919.

Alzheimer’s program

The Alzheimer’s Association and Lincoln County Senior Services will host the Alzheimer’s program “Conversations About Dementia” 9:30-11 a.m. at the Lincoln County Senior Center, 514 S. AARP meeting

Lincoln Quilters

The Lincoln Quilters will meet 7 p.m. at the Citizens Center in Lincolnton to discuss how to make a valentine heart collage. Visitors are welcome.

Apron workshop

The Lincoln County Senior Center is looking for volunteers for its third memory apron workshop, which will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the facility, 514 S. Academy St. on the Gaston College-Lincoln campus in Lincolnton. Volunteers should bring a sewing machine and sewing supplies. Lunch will be provided. For more information, call (704) 732-9053.

Valentine’s dance

The Lincoln County Senior Center will also host its rescheduled Valentine’s Day dance for ages 60 and up. Cost is $5 and includes refreshments. For more information or to register, call (704) 732-9053.

Kidz Klub

Hill’s Chapel UMC, 988 S. N.C. 16 in Stanley, will host a Kidz Klub “Under the Sea Adventure” 6-8 p.m. for children ages 3 through 5th grade. Activities will include dinner, games and crafts.

Poetry Lincolnton

Poetry Lincolnton, and Main Street Rag, will host a free writer’s workshop 7 p.m. at the Cultural Center with guest poet Lise Whidden. The group’s usual poetry night and open mic event will follow at 7:30 p.m.

 

SATURDAY

 

Church breakfast

Daniels Lutheran Church, 3290 Reepsville Rd. in Lincolnton, will host a breakfast 7-10 a.m. Cost is $6. Proceeds will benefit the church building fund. The Young Women’s Group will also be selling baked goods to raise money for Sunday school rooms.

Thrift store event

The King’s Daughters’ Ministry’s Penny Thrift store will celebrate its second anniversary 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 532 N.C. 27 S. in Stanley with a Penny Bag Sale. Polar Plunge

Special Olympics of Lincoln County will sponsor a polar plunge at Sally’s YMCA in Denver.
