STANLEY — Emma Louise Rhyne Devine, age 94, of Stanley Total Living Center, died on Wednesday, February 12, 2014.
Her funeral service was 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2014, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charlene Hutchings officiating. Burial followed in the Laboratory United Methodist Church cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Emma was born February 23, 1919, in Lincoln County to the late Luther and Eva Arney Rhyne. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband John Luther Devine; son, David Alonzo Devine; two brothers, Alonzo Rhyne and Robert “Windy” Rhyne; and two sisters Willie Mosteller and Mammie Bridges. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Devine was a very active and long-time member of Laboratory United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Judson Devine and wife Alice “Cat” of Lincolnton and Devin Myrick Devine of McDonough, Ga.; two daughters, Becky Farrar of Mt. Holly and Sarah Creshwell and fiancé Edward Rubsenstein of Lincolnton; four grandchildren Ronnie Michael Sealey, Liz Boyd, Beth Boykin, and John David Farrar; and two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Doc Farrar.

Hubert Lee Gilbert
NEWTON — Mr. Hubert Lee Gilbert, age 85, of 430 Shuford Circle Drive in Newton, and formerly of Lincolnton, died on Friday, February 14, 2014.
His funeral service will be noon on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Wyant and Rev. Larry Bolick officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Hubert was born May 24, 1928, in Lincoln County to the late Marshall Emmanuel and Addie Wilson Gray Gilbert. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Miriam Stroud Gilbert. He was the owner/operator of coin-operated laundries and car washes in the local area.
He is survived by a son Larry Gilbert and wife Diane of Charlotte; a daughter, Beth Wrenn and husband Lee of Kill Devil Hills; a brother, John Gilbert of Birmingham, Ala.; and three grandchildren, Ingrid Wheelahan and husband Richard of Charlotte, Philip Wrenn of Raleigh, and Anna Bruton and husband Michael of Beaufort, S.C.

Jack Brady Heavner Sr., age 67, of 757 Brady Branch Trail in Lincolnton, died on Friday, February 14, 2014.
A graveside service will be held today at 3:30 p.m. at Hollybrook Cemetery with Rev. Joe Ervin officiating. The family will be at the funeral home between 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. prior to the graveside service.
Jack was born October 24, 1946, in Lincoln County, to the late Clyde Preston and Daisy Eurey Heavner. He worked as the parts manager for Abernathy Chevrolet and Sonny Hancock.
He is survived by a son, Brad Heavner and wife Kristel of Lincolnton; a daughter,r Jennifer Heavner Kollock of Huntersville; a brother, Jay Clyde Heavner and wife Millie of Gastonia; three grandchildren, Brady Heavner, Matt Heavner, and Lindsey Kollock; nephew, Andy Heavner; niece, Amy Heavner Savage; and aunt Nancy Heavner Gilbert and husband Wally of Lynchburg, Va..

CHERRYVILLE — Walter Alexander McNeely, age 81, of Hull Rd. died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at his residence. He was born on October 23, 1932 in Cleveland County, a son of the late Bryson and Maggie Justice McNeely. He was a member of North Brook Baptist Church and Pine Grove Golf Course. Walt enjoyed gardening, shooting pool, playing golf, bowling, and fishing. He was retired from Doran Textile and Ester Mill in Shelby.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Alma Elizabeth Houser McNeely; son, Larry McNeely (Nancy) of Lincolnton; daughters, Linda Ledford (Tommy), Jane Homesley (Amos P. III), and Wanda Black (Mike) all of Cherryville; sister, Mary Sutton (George) of Cherryville; grandchildren, Tracy Ledford (LaDonna) of Vale, Brandy Ledford of Cherryville, and Nikki Zammarelli (Ed) of Cherryville; step-grandchild, Dale Ledford (Jamey) of Cherryville; great-grandchildren, Morgan Silver, Chase Silver, Gracie Ledford, Olivia Ledford, and Zoie Costner; and step-great-grandchild, Dale Ledford Jr.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 4 p.m. at North Brook Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Pennell and Rev. Bob Wise officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery. The family received friends from 2 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

HICKORY — Betty Lee Andrews Rhyne, age 92, of Kingston Residence of Hickory, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014.
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, in Lincolnton at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Mike Collins officiating, and Rev. Jim Evans assisting at the graveside. Burial will follow in the Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery in Newton. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. in the North Wing of the church.
Mrs. Rhyne was born December 16, 1921 in Buncombe County to the late Ellison Capers Andrews and Willie Bernice Foster Andrews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Clifford A. Rhyne, and a daughter, Betsy Rhyne Mazak. Mrs. Rhyne was the Director of Social Services for Lincoln County for 19 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Martha Rhyne-Winkler and husband Dorman of Granite Falls; son-in-law, Richard Mazak of Lincolnton; sister, Kathleen Wagner of Tryon; brother-in-law, Douglas Rhyne and wife Marion of Dallas, N.C.; sister-in-law, Myra Rhyne of Kingston; two nieces, Betty Kathleen Henderson of Chinle, AZ and Kristine Kriener Kraus of Durham; three nephews John Kriener and wife Barbara of Alamosa, CO, Karlos Kriener of Spartanburg, S.C., and Leslie Kriener of Spartanburg, S.C.; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mr. William “Bill” H. Scronce, age 79, of 725 Clay Street in Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, February 12, 2014.

Bill was born January 7, 1935, in Lincoln County to the late Ethan Lee and Hattie Paysour Scronce. He retired from La-Z-Boy Furniture where he was supervisor of the framing department.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Jane Harkey Scronce of the home; a son Ronald Scronce of Lincolnton; daughter Melody S. Sigmon and husband Keith of Lincolnton; two brothers Earl Scronce and Jerry Scronce, both of Lincolnton; six grandchildren, Branon Scronce, Ashton Stanley, Chase Scronce, Karla Barber, Connor Sigmon, and Kendall Sigmon; and eight great-grandchildren.

CHERRYVILLE — Mrs. Evelyn Ruth Self Wehunt, 92, of Flay Road, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at her home.
Mrs. Wehunt was born in Cleveland County on June 15, 1921 a daughter of the late Clayton Self and Vena Willis Self. She was a homemaker and member of North Brook Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Kemp Winfield Wehunt and two sisters, Lunez Dellinger and Joan Wehunt.
Survivors include two sons, Calvin Wehunt and wife Susan, Jim Wehunt and wife Rhonda; a daughter, Jean Houser and husband Gerald all of Cherryville; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Reep and husband Robbie, Jon Wehunt and wife Cristy, Chris Houser, Curtis Houser, Lindsay Fier and husband Adam, Amy Dyson and husband Brent and Travis Wehunt and wife Ann; also surviving are ten great grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at North Brook Baptist Church.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. today at North Brook Baptist Church with the Revs. Bob Wise and Norris Willis officiating. Burial will be in the Wehunt Family Cemetery at North Brook Baptist Church.
