A trio of Lincoln County wrestlers dominated this season, and they’ll be some of the ones to beat at this weekend’s 2A West regionals.
East Lincoln’s Moses Boyter, and Jake Clary and Charles Mack George of West Lincoln each earned the top seed of their respective weight class for the regionals, which will begin on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Black Mountain Owen High School.
Boyter, a senior, finished the regular season with a 20-4 record and a region-best 83.3 win percentage in the 145-pound weight class. Clary, a sophomore, went 41-3 for a region-best 93.2 win percentage at 106. George, who finished sixth as a sophomore in the state 2A championships last season at 182, is undefeated in 47 matches this season at 195.
George is one of two in this year’s 2A West regionals that has yet to lose a match. Newton-Conover’s Austin Klutz is 54-0 and the top seed in the 113-pound class.
The top four seeds in each weight class advance to the NCHSAA individual state championships, held next Thursday-Saturday at UNC-Greensboro.
Others seeded in the top four from Lincoln County are Raheem Moore (32-13, fourth, Lincolnton, 106) and Zachary Biagi (25-7, fourth, East Lincoln, 113).
Seeds for the 3A Midwest regional, which includes North Lincoln, weren’t made available to the LTN.
