Rev. Marvin Quarles Sr.

MAIDEN — Rev. James Marvin Quarles Sr., 73, of Maiden passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014 at his residence.

Born March 1, 1940 in Oconee, S.C., he was the son of the late Joe Wesley Quarles and the late Julia Elizabeth Nicholson Quarles. Rev. Quarles Sr. pastored in the Wesleyan Churches in Easley, S.C.; Whitmire, S.C.; Lincolnton; Glen Alpine; and Maiden.

The family would like to express their “Thanks!” to Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton and a “Special!” thanks to nurses, Joanna Stewart and Lynn Killian.

In addition to his parents, a sister, Bernice Nyberg preceded him in death.

Survivors include wife of 50 years, Rachel Moorefield Quarles of the home; son, Jay Quarles and wife, Shannon of Catawba; daughter, Renee Q. Cook and husband, Garrison of Maiden; seven granddaughters, Whitney Smith and husband, Michael, Megan Austin, Tiffany Austin, Taylor Stansell, Megan Stansell, Gracie Quarles, Rosalie Quarles; one great-granddaughter, Scarlett Smith; brother, Robert Quarles of Seneca, S.C.; sister, Frances Williams of Spartanburg, S.C.

The funeral service will be held February 11, 2014 at noon at Maiden Wesleyan Church in Maiden with Rev. Paul Mullinax and Rev. Jerry Lumston officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden.

Dortha Marcella Weaver Rudisill “Teeny”

Dortha Marcella Weaver Rudisill “Teeny” age 89, of McBee Street in Lincolnton died Friday, February 7, 2014.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will remain at the cemetery to receive friends following the service. Pastor Mike Collins will officiate the service.

Mrs. Rudisill was born September 30, 1924 in Lincoln County. She was the daughter of the late Austin Weaver and Prue Cornwell Weaver. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Rudisill Jr.; brothers, Freddie Weaver and Jack Weaver. Mrs. Rudisill was retired from Carolina Freight and Leslie Fay where she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper. Teeny as she was known by friends and family, was active in The American Legion Auxiliary and served as a Girl Scout leader and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Survivors include son, John C. Rudisill III and wife Cindy of Maiden; daughter, Gwen R. Carpenter and husband Mike of Lincolnton; granddaughters, Addison Rudisill-Hoffman of Lincolnton, Christian Rudisill of Asheville and Miriah Rudisill of Lincolnton; grandsons, Alan Wentz and wife Katya of Nashville Tenn., Langston Hoffman of Lincolnton, John Carpenter of Huntersville and Darcy Johnson and husband Mark of Hickory; great grandchildren, Caroline W. George and husband Alex George and Gavin Wentz; great-great grandchildren, Carson Campbell and Violet George; sister-in-law, Nancy McMillian Weaver.

The family sends special thanks to her loving and caring caregivers, Aunt Tammy Hoffman and Vicky Williams.

Adonis Cole Williamson, 4 months died February 7, 2014.

Services will be held 12, 2014 at 2 p.m. at E. F. Drum Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Pauline Ivester Davidson

Pauline Ivester Davidson, 84, of Lincolnton died February 8, 2014.

Services will be held today at E. F. Drum Funeral Home at 2 p.m.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  The interment will be at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Lawndale.

Melvin Fonzo Carpenter

Melvin Fonzo Carpenter, 59, of Lawndale died February 6, 2014.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. February 15, 2014 at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston. Visitation will immediately follow the service.

Ruby Aileen Causby Hinson

Ruby Aileen Causby Hinson, 90, of Granite Falls died February 5, 2014.

A funeral service was held on February 8, 2014 at noon at Springs Road Baptist Church in Hickory. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

John E. Sedler Jr.

John E. Sedler Jr., 84, of Claremont died January 31, 2014.

Services will be held at a later date in Florida.
