Reading tests aren’t good for students
This is in response to the state requiring third graders to take 36 proficiency tests for the remainder of the school year. This would be about two tests per week. The children are going to be so tired of taking tests and will probably just fill in any blank to finish the test. This will not tell you the proficiency of the students.
I agree with the local superintendents and teachers who state that this is stressing out the teachers as well as the students. There isn’t an easy fix to a problem that has probably existed for many years. It appears to me that more teacher aides need to be hired to work with these students through out the year.
