Helen Goins Hull

Helen Goins Hull, age 77, of 2300 Brookwood Road in Lincolnton, died on Friday, January 31, 2014.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Chapman officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Helen was born May 2, 1936, in Lincoln County to the late Guy Evan and Pearl White Goins. She was retired from textiles.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Hull of the home; two daughters, Robin Willis and husband R.C. of Lincolnton and Rhonda Magnani and husband Elton of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Joey Magnani, Autumn Lamkin, and Somer Willis; four great-grandchildren, Tre Lamkin, Maleah Lamkin, Addie Dellinger, and Maisy Mosteller; and three sisters, Carolyn Thomas, Nell Goins, and Louise Sigmon.

Betty Abee ‘Bet’ Sain

VALE — Mrs. Betty Abee “Bet” Sain, age 86, formerly of 2804 Cat Square Road in Vale, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, February 1, 2014.

Her funeral will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. John Locke officiating. Her body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. this evening at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sain was born May 7, 1927 in Catawba County to the late T.S. Abee and Demcey Abee.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, B.J. Sain, and an infant daughter as well as seven brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by her daughters, Berna Tallent (Gary) and Sandy Peeler (Eddie) of Vale and LaNae Haigler (Hoyle) of Monroe; grandchildren, Gaye Willis, Melanie Ward, Melissa Peeler, and Robin Peeler; great grandchildren, Brittany Anderson, Chase Ward, McKenzie Willis, and Jack Willis; one sister, Kathleen Isenhour of Hickory and  one brother, Bill Abee of Vale.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Brian Center, 600 Hall, for the love and care of their mother for the past four years with a special thanks to Eileen, Earline, Vanessa and Wendy.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, PO Box 7, Vale, NC 28168.

Max Rufus Setzer

HIGH SHOALS — Mr. Max Rufus Setzer, age 78, of High Shoals, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2014.

His funeral will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Long
Shoals Wesleyan Church with Pastors Jon Mann and Dickie Whitener officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Setzer was born July 24, 1935 in Gaston County to the late Clarence and Mary Setzer.  Max was the most devoted, loving, caring and giving husband, father and grandfather this world has ever known. Family and friends meant the world to Max.  He was retired from Setzer’s Buick Pontiac.  Max was a lifelong member of Long Shoals Wesleyan Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ibera Mosteller Setzer of the home; one son, Nathan Setzer and wife Angie of Lincolnton; four daughters, Sherron Gee, Melissa Wilfong and husband Alan, Teresa Lagassee and husband Jeff, all of Lincolnton and Deanna Brooks and husband Alan of Tenn.; one brother, Ned Setzer of Lincolnton; two sisters, Mary Nell Bell of High Shoals and Evelyn Tino of Gastonia; eleven grandchildren, Summer Gee, Dustin Gee and wife Amber, Casey Gee, Colby Setzer and wife Christen, Cori Setzer, Tyler Wilfong, Kelsey Wilfong, Sarah Helms and husband Dustin, Joshua Peeler, Kaleb Brooks and Nick Brooks; six great grandchildren, Addison Gee, Ryleigh Gee, Ansley Gee, Chandler Setzer, Carleigh Setzer and NoraLeigh Helms.

Ezekiel Charles Watson

Mr. Ezekiel “Charles” Watson, 76, of 2447 Lake Street in Lincolnton, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2014.

He was born March 28, 1937 in Stearns, Ky. to the late Sherman and Edna Mae Jones Watson. He was a deacon at Middle Cross Baptist Church in Crouse. He loved gardening, hunting, fishing, and bowling.

His funeral will be held 2 p.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dale Hendricks and Rev. David Jerrell officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family received friends, Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include wife, Cleda Gay Hawkins Watson; son, Darryl Watson and Kimberly of Lincolnton; daughters, Barbara Mabe and Robert of Lincolnton and Jennifer Stonefield and Robert of Christiansburg, Va.; grandson, Derek Watson and Stephanie of Lincolnton; granddaughter; Casey Mason of Lincolnton; and great- grandson, Elijah Watson of Lincolnton.

Pearl Hoyle White

Pearl Hoyle White, age 96, of the Brian Center, died on Friday, January 31, 2014.

Her funeral service was 2 p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2014, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Lt. Col. Tim Atkinson officiating. Burial was private. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

A native of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late James Odis and Effie Wilson Hoyle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Andrew White and three brothers, James Luther Hoyle, Arthur J. Hoyle, and Henry Franklin Hoyle. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church of Lincolnton.

She is survived by her two sons, Grady Lee White and wife Patricia Ann of Gastonia and James F. White and wife Marlene of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, David Lee White and wife Carol Lynn of Gastonia, Peggy Ann Atkinson and husband Tim of Sanford, James Alan White and wife Lessie of Oakboro, and Kimberly Ann McMurtry and husband Tom of Danville, Va.; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Lorene Shull Beam, 91, of Cherryville died January 31, 2014.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. February 4, 2014 at Carpenter’s Funeral & Cremation Services. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends this evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kenneth Lee Carpenter, 61, of Lincolnton died January 23, 2014.

The family will hold a private service at a later date.

Margie R. Spencer

Margie Lea Rowe Spencer, 89, of Conover died February 1, 2014.

A funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at St. Stephens Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in Hickory. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Fleeta Eckard Cook, 86, of Hickory died January 31, 2014.

A funeral service will be held February 4, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton.  Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory. The family will receive friends today from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Burke Mortuary in Newton.

Forrest Eloy Duncan

Forrest Eloy Duncan, 90, of Newton died January 31, 2014.

A service of remembrance will be held today at 3 p.m. at Grace Pentecostal Holiness Church, Newton. Burial will follow at Macedonia Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery in Vale. The family will receive friends today from 1:45 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at Grace Pentecostal Holiness Church. Robert F. Bennett Funeral Service Licensee is serving the Duncan family.

 

Mack Melton Starnes

Mack Melton Starnes, 73 of Shelby, formerly of Kings Mountain, died February 1, 2014.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on February 5, 2014 at Carpenter’s Funeral & Cremation Services. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from noon until 1:15 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
