Hardware store plans move toward Highway 16

Lincoln County’s Planning and Inspections Department will hold a community meeting this Thursday to provide more information about the proposal to permit construction of a home hardware store and to receive comments prior to a public hearing.

Applicant Xiaopei Guo is requesting to amend a conditional zoning district to permit an 8,160 square-foot retail sales facility with upper-story offices.

Guo and Hongtao Han currently operate eBuilderDirect.com, a home hardware store located on Burnwood Trail in Denver. According to their website, their store offers high-end and deeply discounted door hardware for both professional builders and do-it-yourself customers. The company carries several items, including door locks, deadbolts, interior locks, handle sets, bathroom faucets, outdoor lighting fixtures and accessories.

According to Lincoln County Zoning Administrator Randy Hawkins, Guo and Han wish to move their storefront to gain more visibility on Highway 16.

This is not the first time the lot has been rezoned for business purposes. According to Hawkins, the lot was rezoned in 2008 from a residential to conditional neighborhood business zoning to permit a 4900 square foot retail and office building facility.

“Because Guo and Han have a different site plan and want a bigger building, their proposal will need to go through a public hearing process, which requires a community meeting,” Hawkins said.

The community meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Denver Fire Department at 3956 N. NC 16 Highway in Denver. Those interested in more information should contact the Lincoln County Planning and Inspections Department at (704) 736-8440.
