West Lincoln’s Jake Clary and Charles Mack George, and Moses Boyter of East Lincoln won the championship of their respective weight classes at the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A Conference wrestling tournament at Newton-Conover on Saturday.
Clary earned a 10-5 decision over Joseph Xiong of Newton-Conover to win the 106-pound class. George won his second straight league title with a 9-5 decision over Newton-Conover’s Junior Hewitt at 195 pounds. Boyter downed David Dennison of West Caldwell 4-3 to win the 145-pound championship.
East Lincoln’s Bradley Vanderwerken finished second at 138.
Third place finishers were Robbie Hallman (West Lincoln, 113), Jonathan Biagi (East Lincoln, 120), Dillon Morris (West Lincoln, 126), Dustin Headrick (West Lincoln, 160), Nick Hatchett (Lincolnton, 182) and Matthew Cabe (Lincolnton, 220).
George’s title was the 100th win of his career. The junior is 47-0 this year, 100-7 for his career and ranked third in the state by RetroRankings.com in the 195-pound class.
Clary is ranked second and Boyter seventh in their respective classes.
Results from Saturday’s North Piedmont 3A/4A Conference tournament were not reported to the Lincoln Times-News.
LINCOLNTON 59, BANDYS 40: At Bandys, Will Saine scored 20 points and the Wolves rode a huge first quarter to the SD-7 win on Friday.
Quinlyn Harris scored 12 points and Ketwan Ingram added 11 in a game Lincolnton (7-10, 4-5) outscored Bandys (8-10, 3-6) 17-4 in the first eight minutes.
EAST LINCOLN 66, BUNKER HILL 55: At Bunker Hill, the Mustangs got 20 points from freshman Sage Surratt in the SD-7 win.
Charlie Hills scored 18 points and Chazz Surratt added 10 for East Lincoln (16-2, 7-2), which hosts league-leading Newton-Conover on Tuesday.
NEWTON-CONOVER 91, WEST LINCOLN 54: At West Lincoln, the Red Devils kept the Rebels from picking up their first conference win. No other details were reported.
West Lincoln is now 1-18 overall, 0-10 in SD-7 play.
BESSEMER CITY 61, LINCOLN CHARTER 57: At Lincoln Charter, the Yellow Jackets defeated the Eagles in a Southern Piedmont 1A Conference game. No other details were reported.
Lincoln Charter is now 7-13 overall, 2-6 in league play.
BANDYS 94, LINCOLNTON 26: At Bandys, the top-ranked Trojans rolled to another win.
Saylor Whitesides scored eight points and Kaniyia Brown added seven to lead the Wolves (6-11, 3-6).
BUNKER HILL 48, EAST LINCOLN 20: At Bunker Hill, the Bears rolled to an easy win.
Hannah Moolenaar led East Lincoln (3-15, 1-8) with 10 points.
NEWTON-CONOVER 52, WEST LINCOLN 28: At West Lincoln, the Red Devils kept the Rebels from picking up their first conference win. No other details were reported.
