Snow was the winner on Tuesday, and it’ll ultimately win again today.
The winter storm that moved into the area on Tuesday postponed all athletic events, and has forced the closing of Lincoln County Schools today, thus further complicating rescheduling games and matches.
The majority of Tuesday’s postponements were set to be played today, but shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday Lincoln County Schools announced there would be no school.
By rule, when schools dismiss early or are closed due to weather, all after school activities are either canceled or postponed.
Two events scheduled for Tuesday were rescheduled for a date other than today. Lincolnton’s Southern District 7 Athletic 2A Conference basketball games at East Lincoln were rescheduled for Feb. 5, and its home three-team wrestling match with the Mustangs and Cherryville was rescheduled for Thursday at 5 p.m.
West Lincoln’s home basketball games with and its wrestling match at Bunker Hill, originally scheduled for Tuesday and postponed to today, have both been rescheduled for Thursday.
North Lincoln’s home basketball games against Alexander Central and Lincoln Charter’s basketball games at Thomas Jefferson Academy in Mooresboro, all scheduled for Tuesday, were rescheduled for today but can’t be played, and make-up dates have not been reported to the Lincoln Times-News.
Schools have two days –– Thursday and Friday –– to make up wrestling matches, as conference tournaments will be held on Saturday (the SD-7 tournament will be held at Newton-Conover, and the North Piedmont 3A/4A tournament will be held at South Iredell), and the reporting deadline for teams qualifying for the NCHSAA state dual-team playoffs is 6 a.m. on Monday. The playoffs are scheduled to begin Tuesday.
The only games originally scheduled for today were basketball games between visiting Newton-Conover and Lincolnton. They will now take place on Thursday.
