Christina Jones Carswell
VALE — Christina Jones Carswell, 46, of Vale, passed away January 25, 2014 at her residence after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 16, 1967 in Gaston County, daughter of Kenneth and Althea Jones.
She was a loving mother and daughter who liked to tend to her flower garden.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Gospel Light Holiness Church, officiated by Rev. Jerry Willard. Visitation will follow the service at the church.
In addition to her parents, Christina is survived by: her son, Kevin Walker; daughters, Chandra Carswell, Suzie Carswell; and brother, Jesse Jones.

Gary Dwight Downs, 77, of 1001 St. Paul Church Road, Casar, died Monday, January 27, 2014 at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.
Born October 21, 1936 in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Robbie Kelly Downs and Eula Costner Downs. He worked for Tri-County Farm Supply and was a farmer. Mr. Downs was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and served in the Army Military Police at Sandea Base in Albuqurque, NM.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Downs and wife, Ruth and Donald Downs; and brother-in-law, Joel Murray.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Patsy Short Downs; son, Gregory Downs and wife, Donna of Raleigh; daughter, Lindsay Chaney and husband, Wes of Shelby; four grandchildren, Caleb Downs, Isabelle Downs, Adam Chaney and William Chaney; sister, Dorothy Murray of Anderson, S.C.; and sister-in-law, Faye Downs of Vale.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Casar. The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes before the service. Rev. Jamie Bridges will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Johnny Keith Harris, age 62, of 1382 Pressley Drive in Lincolnton, died on Sunday, January 26, 2014.
His funeral service will be 4 p.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dickie Whitener and Rev. Charles Ingle officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. today prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Harris was born June 4, 1951 in Lincoln County to Patsy Whitener Harris and the late John Harris. He worked in textiles.
He is survived by his wife, Jody B. Harris of the home; a son, Brett Harris of High Shoals; two stepsons, Andrew Rosenbeck of Charlotte and Jordan Rosenbeck of the home; three brothers, Roland Harris, Jay Harris, and Tim Harris, all of High Shoals; sister, Katrina Hendricks of High Shoals; and his mother, Pat Harris of High Shoals.

DENVER — Lucille B. Hubbard, age 75, of King Wilkinson Road in Denver, died on Tuesday, January 28, 2014.
Her funeral service will be 3 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014, at New Grace Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Warlick Funeral Home.
Lucille was born April 13, 1938, in Buffalo, S.C. to the late Robert and Hazel Brooks Babb. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Wade Hubbard Sr., a sister, Vivian Johnson, and a brother Torrence Babb. She worked in furniture manufacturing and was also a homemaker.
She is survived by her children, Doug Hubbard and wife Sherri, Phil Hubbard and wife Lisa, Kimberly Hubbard Pressley, and Wade Hubbard Jr. and wife Christal; sisters, Barbara Lawson, and Laura Lee Childers; brothers, Ted Babb and C.L. Babb; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ada was born November 24, 1916, in Lincoln County to the late Dofus and Sara Elizabeth Schronce Poole. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Baker; son, Howard Lawing; brothers, Horace Poole, Bill Poole, Richard Poole, and Grover Poole, and sisters, Fannie Sherrill and Macie McAlister.
She is survived by a son, Vernon “Butch” Lawing (Beverly) of Lincolnton; two daughters, Brenda Pearce (Forest) of Denver, and Ruth Little (John) of Lincolnton; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
