MONDAY

College orientation

Gaston College will hold a four-day Basic Skills New Student Orientation class 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in room 118 of the Lincoln Campus, 511 S. Aspen St. in Lincolnton. Additional classes will be 5:30-8:30 p.m. Jan. 27-30. Classes are for students interested in obtaining a GED or Adult High School diploma. Diabetes class

CMC-Lincoln will host another discussion as part of its “Keeping on Track with Diabetes” series, focusing on the flu season with speaker Sheila Tomlin, an infection preventionist, 6 p.m. at the Lincoln Medical Plaza, 441 McAlister Rd. in Lincolnton. Homemade tomato soup will be served.

LCS meeting 

Lincoln Charter School will hold its monthly board meeting 6:30 p.m. at the Denver campus, 7834 Galway Ln.

 

TUESDAY

Divorce Care

NAACP

The Lincoln County chapter of the NAACP will meet 6:30 p.m. at the Cultural Center in Lincolnton to plan Black History Month events. For more information, call (704) 268-9419 or email naacpinlincolncounty@gmail.com.

 

WEDNESDAY

Senior legal aid 

Lincoln County Senior Services will offer legal aid (assistance with wills and health care documents) for residents ages 60 and up. For more information or to make an appointment, call the Legal Aid helpline at 1-(877)-579-7562.

Bee School

Lincoln County Beekeepers Bee School 2014 will have its first class 7 p.m. in the demonstration kitchen on the first floor of the Citizens Center in Lincolnton. The class will run Wednesdays through March 18. Cost is $45 and includes membership with the Beekeepers Assocation for the county and state along with cirriculum materials and a field day lunch. THURSDAY

Cheesecake event  

Carillon Assisted Living, will host “Slice of Cheesecake Heaven” 4-6 p.m. An assortment of cheesecakes will be available (i.e. vanilla, raspberry swirl, vanilla/chocolate and chocolate chip). Admission is free. For more information, call (704) 732-0029.

Common Core presentation 

An information and discussion on the new LCS cirriculum and the future of education will be 7 p.m. at the Charles R. Jonas Library, W. Main St. in Lincolnton. All parents are welcome. For more information, call Scott at (704) 488-2180.

 

FRIDAY

Art auction  

The “Be a Hero Art Auction” benefiting Communities in Schools (CIS) of Lincoln County will be 7 p.m. at the Cultural Center in Lincolnton. Carolina Trust Bank is also sponsoring the event. Cost is $10; tickets will be available at the CIS office and the Cultural Center. The event will showcase the work of a professional comic book artist, local artisans and CIS students.
