Loyd Clinton Ayers

Mr. Loyd Clinton Ayers, age 80, of 3269 Pine Tree Street in Lincolnton, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014.

His funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. today at Long Shoals Wesleyan Church in Lincolnton with Pastor Jon Mann and Rev. Ron Haithcock officiating. Burial will be private in Swannanoa. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. today prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Ayers was born March 29, 1933, in McDowell County to the late Jesse and Tellie Henson Ayers. He was raised in Swannanoa and later served in the United States Army. Upon discharge, he graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. After returning home, he worked as administrator of textiles in both Gaston and Lincoln counties, worked for Gaston County Schools as the Budget and Finance Director, and was the owner of NC Spa & Pool.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ayers of the home; and three children, Bryan Ayers and wife Angie of Lincolnton, Kristi Montgomery and husband Rick of Denver, and Phillip Ayers and wife Dana of Lincolnton; two brothers, Norman Ayers and wife Cleta of Oteen, and Dean Ayers and wife Brenda of Weaverville; two sisters, Jewell Padgett of Black Mountain, and Gail Ayers of Asheville; and five grandchildren, Brittany, Jacob, Josh, Emily, and Truman.

Memorials may be made to Robin Johnson Hospice House, 258 E. Garrison Blvd., Gastonia, NC 28054.

Carolyn Canipe Parker

Carolyn Canipe Parker “Wonder Woman” age 78 went home to Jesus, her Heavenly Father on January 22, 2014 at Carolinas Medical Center Charlotte.  She was born on May 15, 1935 in Lincoln County to the late Clayton Lee Canipe and Edna Farmer Canipe.

Mrs. Parker was a member of Gainsville Baptist Church.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed working in her yard and with her flowers.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ellery E. Parker; one son, James Parker; two infant sisters; and one infant brother.

Survivors include daughters, Cynthia Gilbert and her husband Ronnie of Lincolnton, Kathy Farley and her husband Flint of Broadway; grandchildren, Brandy Wylie, Adam Gilbert, April Johnson, Allison Reynolds, Eric Parker, Aaron Farley, Sean Farley, Nelsena Farley and Tete Farley; great grandchildren, Noah Wylie, Aiden Gilbert, Chandler Johnson, Christopher Parker, Jessica Parker and Dylan Parker; brothers, Steven Canipe and wife Sharon of Tucson Ariz., and Michael Canipe and wife Carla of Shawnee, Kans.; and her loving canine companion, Buffy.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Gainsville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at E F Drum Funeral Home.

Joshua “Josh” Scott Story, 25, died January 20, 2014.

A memorial service will be today at 2 p.m. at E. F. Drum Funeral Home. Visitation will immediately follow the service.

Betty Jane Coins, 72, of Winston-Salem died January 21, 2014.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. January 25, 2014 at Samaritan Baptist Church, Winston-Salem.


Thomas Nixon Sr.

Thomas Nixon Sr., 91, of Vale died January 18, 2014.

Funeral service will be held January 25, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Tuckers Grove United Methodist Church, Iron Station.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the church.
