Church sweeps gymnastic meet

Contributed / Sierra Church, 8, of West Lincoln, recently swept the North Carolina State Meet for the United States Association of Gymnastics. She won 1st place in the “All-Around” category and additionally topped other gymnasts in the categories of “Beam,” “Bars,” “Floor” and “Vault,” making her the N.C. State Champion in every event, her mother Wendy Church said. The Union Elementary School student practices 16-18 hours per week and takes dance lessons and tumble classes through Xtreme Edge Dance Studio in Lincolnton. Sierra Church also trains routinely for the Junior Olympic Program with the Everest Gymnastics Training Center in Huntersville. Last year, she event tied for the no. 13 spot on USAG’s top 100 list of gymnasts. Wendy Church said she and her husband Bryan Church are “extremely proud” of their daughter. Sierra Church is the granddaughter of Jim and Diane Rudisill of West Lincoln, John Ard Jr., of Cherryville, and Christine Ard, of Lincolnton.
