Donald Edward Colvin Jr.

Donald Edward Colvin Jr., 53, passed away peacefully at Levine Dickson Hospice Center in Huntersville on January 15, 2014.

He was born February 12, 1960 in San Bernardino, Calif. He is survived by his mother Ruth Rose and his sisters Anne Colvin, Colette Colvin, and Babette Colvin as well as his daughter, Ayla A. Harvey. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Colvin; brother, Paul Colvin, and wife, Phyllis Harvey.

Don moved to Iron Station from Richmond, Va. in 2004 with his wife Phyllis and daughter Ayla where he continued his work in sales, which was his career for more than 20 years.  Don’s life was filled with music, friends, a curiosity about the world around him, and the love of his daughter. His love of and devotion to his daughter guided his every action and filled him with joy.

He will be missed by family and friends and the lives of the many that he touched.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Levine Dickson Hospice Center, 11960 Vanstory Dr., Huntersville, NC 28278.

A private gathering to celebrate his life will be held this weekend.

Herman Lee Sisk Sr.

Mr. Herman Lee Sisk Sr., age 81, of 3030 E. Highway 150 in Lincolnton, died on Sunday, January 12, 2014.

A celebration of life service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Ingle officiating. The family received friends after the service at 3030 E. Highway 150 in Lincolnton.

Mr. Sisk was born May 15, 1932 in Lincoln County to the late Gordon and Nettie Lawing Sisk. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and upon discharge, worked as a meat cutter for Caldwell Meat Processing.

He is survived by a son, Herman L. Sisk Jr. and wife Terri of Del.; two daughters, Barbara Duhon and husband Larry of Lincolnton and Rita McGuigan of Maiden; a brother, Ralph Sisk of Lincolnton; companion, Jessie Hendricks and her extended family; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Mary Sisk of Del.

Marilyn Ward Nantz Gray

Marilyn Ward Nantz Gray, age 87, of the Brian Center in Lincolnton, died on Tuesday, January 14, 2014.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Hillcrest Gardens in Mt. Holly with Rev. Chase White officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. today at Warlick Funeral Home.

Ms. Gray was born May 30, 1926 in Gaston County to the late Robert Hugh and Monnie Queen Ward. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by five brothers, Robert Hugh Ward, Faye Ward, Charles Ward, Keith Ward, and Forrest Ward; and two sisters, Mary Ward Hart and Dorothy Ward Hart. She worked as a beautician.

She is survived by two brothers, Dennis Ward of Iron Station and Bruce Ward of Lincolnton; one sister, Charlene Effird of Kannapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alan Joseph Valk

Alan Joseph Valk, 62, of Vale died January 13, 2014.

An informal memorial service will be held January 18, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Rockin K Ranch in Huntersville.

The Valk family is in the care of Robert F. Bennett, Funeral Service Licensee.

 

Barbara Gold Borders Dover

Barbara Gold Borders Dover, 73, of Cherryville died January 15, 2014.

The family received friends January 16, 2014 at the home of Susan and Bobby Dale Reynolds, 102 Nemans Cove, Cherryville from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. A private memorial service will be held later.

Vinnie M. Sowell Cauthen

Vinnie M. Sowell Cauthen, 85, of Lincolnton died January 10, 2014.

Funeral services will be held January 18, 2014 at noon at Providence Missionary Baptist Church with burial to follow in

Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

Bessie Ann Brown

Bessie Ann Brown, 63, of Vale died January 14, 2014.

Funeral services will be January 19, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.

Thomas Kenton Taylor

Thomas Kenton Taylor, 64, of Denver died January 15, 2014.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on January 18, 2014 at the Denver Wesleyan Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service from noon until 1:30 p.m. Interment with full military honors will follow the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Lincolnton
