Diabetes class

The Gaston County Senior Center in Dallas will host “Living Healthy with Diabetes,” a six-week class, which will run 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. each Friday today through Feb. 14. For more information, call (704) 922-2110 or visit gastongov.com.


Carroll Cooke & Determined will perform a concert 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Friendly’s Restaurant, 119 N. Main St. in Stanley.



Chicken pie/dumpling dinner 

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 4051 King Wilkinson Rd. in Lincolnton, will host a chicken pie, chicken dumpling and stew beef supper starting at 11 a.m. To order on or before Jan. 10 (Fri.), call Jesse or Brad Summey at (704) 732-7529. Whole pies must be ordered the event day. For to-go orders on event day, call (704) 735-2968. Cost is $9 per plate. “Precious Memories” will perform 5-7 p.m.

Church concert 

Living Word Ministries, 1062 N.C. 16 in Lowesville, will host the Harvesters Quartet and Adam Beard along with Carroll Cooke & Determined in concert at 6 p.m. A freewill offering will be collected. For more information, call (704) 618-9762.

Widowed Group

The Widowed Group of the Greater Gaston Area will host a dance 7-10 p.m. at the Gaston County Senior Center, 1303 Dallas-Cherryville Hwy. in Dallas. River Oaks Band

Bud Long’s River Oaks Band will perform 7 p.m. at 2910 Killian Rd. in Lincolnton. Doors opent at 6 p.m. Due to liability issues, children under 12 will not be permitted.



Church concert

Blood drive

David’s Chapel UMC, David’s Chapel Rd. in Vale, will host a blood drive 12:30-4:30 p.m. through the American Red Cross. To make an appointment, contact Joyce Self at (704) 276-1756. All donors will be entered to win a $1,500 gift card.



College orientation

Gaston College will hold a four-day Basic Skills New Student Orientation class starting 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. today in room 118 of the Lincoln Campus, 511 S. Aspen St. in Lincolnton. Senior Bingo

Coalition of Churches  

The Coalition Of Churches will meet 7 p.m. at Oaklawn School in Lincolnton. The discussion for the meeting will be the completion of MLK events and black history Information. The public is invited to attend.



LCS Spelling Bee

The annual Lincoln County Spelling Bee will start 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 201 Robin Rd. in Lincolnton. A practice round will be at 9:30 a.m. (no spectators allowed). Doors will close promptly at 10 a.m., and late spectators will not be permitted to enter.

NARFE meeting

Lasik eye seminar

Line dancing

Johnny and Vickie Colvard will lead an 8-week line dance class 7-8:30 p.m. at the Citizens Center in Lincolnton. Registration will be 6:30 p.m. the first night. Church fundraiser

First Presbyterian Church, 114 W. Main St. in Lincolnton, will host a fundraiser for Christian Ministry 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Executive Director Susan Brymer will host a presentation, and a free meal will be handed out to all attendants. The nonprofit is asking for both financial donations and non-perishable household staples.
