The MinuteClinic walk-in medical clinic opened its doors last week at CVS pharmacy’s 1403 E Main Street location. According to a company press release, this is the 27th MinuteClinic established in the Charlotte area and the 60th location in the state. Presently, MinuteClinic, a division of Caremark Corporation, is the largest provider retail of medical clinics in the United States with more than 800 locations in 28 states and the District of Columbia.

“Since opening the first store-based clinic in North Carolina in 2005, MinuteClinic has helped to expand access to high-quality, convenient and affordable care to thousands of residents at CVS/pharmacy locations near where they live and work,” Andrew Sussman, M.D., president, MinuteClinic and senior vice president/associate chief medical officer of CVS Caremark Corporation said in a press release.

The nurse practitioners of MinuteClinic specialize in family health care, allowing them to diagnose, treat and write prescriptions for common family illnesses such as strep throat and ear, eye, sinus, bladder and bronchial infections. Minor wounds, abrasions, skin conditions and joint sprains are treated, and common vaccinations such as influenza, tetanus, pneumonia and Hepatitis A & B are available at most locations. Physicals required for sports, camps and college are also available daily.

In addition, MinuteClinic provides a series of wellness services designed to help their patients identify necessary lifestyle changes to improve their health. These services include screenings and monitoring for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

No appointments are required at MinuteClinic, and most health insurance providers are accepted. For patients interested in solely paying out of pocket, treatment prices are posted online and at each clinic. The cost for most treatments starts at $79.
