Lincoln County’s Board of Commissioners expects to hear several public zoning requests tonight at their first meeting of the new year.
American Tower Corporation is requesting a conditional use permit to erect a 195-foot wireless communications tower in the Ironton Township. The proposed site is on an 11-acre tract at 1875 Buffalo Shoals Road.
Applicant Sean Hughes has submitted a proposal to amend part of the Lincoln County Unified Development Ordinance. He hopes to have Section 2.2.1 amended to make a telecommunications tower that is 101 to 325 feet in height a conditional use in the R-S and R-SF districts. Section 4.3.7, which would add screening and fencing requirements for equipment compounds for telecommunications towers, is also under consideration for possible amendment.
Applicants Steven and Danielle Maggs are requesting to rezone land from a neighborhood business to a conditional zoning general industrial to permit an expansion of a self-storage facility. The property is located on the west side of N.C. 16 Business, about 250 feet north of Galway Lane in the Catawba Springs Township.
Commissioners will also decide whether to approve a memorandum of agreement and accept a $6,200 grant from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety and Emergency Management for a fire/chemical release exercise. The funds will be used to conduct a functional exercise to prepare the community for a disaster response. Out of the 33 counties that applied for the funds, Lincoln County was one of four counties that had been awarded funding.
County commissioners will meet at the Citizens Center tonight at 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
