The December meeting of the Priscilla Book Club was hosted by Suzanne Peeler. After a dessert course, members shared news.
To begin the meeting, President Kay Barefoot shared her experiences growing up in Winston-Salem and attending the Love Feast at Old Salem. She also shared details of the Moravian Christmas tradition of beeswax candles cradled in a red swirl and the meaningful service of music followed by the serving of Love Feast buns and coffee.
Members made contributions to three local charities including Christian Ministry, the Good Neighbor Shop and Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse and Child Advocacy Center. Treasurer Becky Burke will deliver the annual donations.
Following the business portion of the meeting, Program Leader Becky Burke entertained the group using a collection of children’s books and how she shared her love of reading to students she once taught, and now, her grandchildren.
Barefoot closed the meeting by reading the words to a song always sung during the Love Feast entitled, “Morning Star, O Cheering Sight.”
Sara Miller will host the January meeting; Pat Hance will be the program leader.
