DALLAS — Mr. Ralph Wendell Bull Jr., age 33, of 1129 Vista Lite Lane in Dallas died Saturday, December 28, 2013.
His funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Worley officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 1:45 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Bull was born on April 30, 1980 in Mecklenburg County to Ralph Wendell Bull Sr., and Cynthia Gafford Wichmann. Mr. Bull worked in construction. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, fishing and being outdoors.
Survivors include his wife Nicole Adkins Bull of the home; two sons, Adrian Bull and Zayden Bull; two daughters, Kaitlyn Bull and Kilee Adkins Bull; mother, Cynthia Wichmann of Fla.; three brothers, Michael Gafford and wife Christine of Gastonia, Preston Bull of Lincolnton, James Bull of Gastonia; sister Amanda White and husband Shawn of Belmont; father and mother-in- law, Thomas and Robin Adkins of Newton.

John ‘Jay’ Garland Clay Jr.
John “Jay” Garland Clay Jr., age 73, died Saturday, December 28, 2013 at his home in Lincolnton with his family and close friends by his side.
His funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Victory Grove Baptist Church with Rev. David Jarrell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. this evening at Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton.
Mr. Clay was born on July 15, 1940 in Dott, W.Va. and was the son of the late John G. Clay Sr. and Grace Bailey Clay. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Mary Clay, seven brothers, seven sisters and one grandson, Kevin Hall. Mr. Clay was a veteran of the United States Army and after retiring as a coal miner worked for Steven’s Motors in Lincolnton and most recently worked as an attendant at the Lincoln County Airport Convenience Site where he enjoyed meeting and talking with the people he met. He was a faithful member of Victory Grove Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, being involved with many other church activities and babysitting his “church babies,” Montgomery and Autumn, during choir practice. Mr. Clay enjoyed being with his family. He had many special people in his life, but he loved everyone.
Survivors include his wife, Gay Dulus Clay of the home; one daughter, Tammy Hall and husband, Billy of Belwood; three sons, John Clay III of Lincolnton, Tim Clay and fiancée, Leslie of Rockmart, Ga.. and Donald Clay and wife, Willa of Icard; two brothers, Glennes Clay and fiancée, Betty of Hudson, and Jeremy Clay and wife, Melissa of Hildebran; one sister, Mary “Libby” Mullins of Connelly Springs; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two special sisters-in-law, Opal Shrewsbury and Nina Shrewsbury of Beeson, W.Va.; special friends, Audrey and Eugene Lefeber of Lincolnton and many nieces and nephews.

Bonnie Lee Smith Johnson
Bonnie Lee Smith Johnson, age 83, of Lincolnton passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013 at CMC-Lincoln. She was born February 17, 1930 in Lincoln County to the late Robert A. Smith and Eva Helton Smith.
She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Broadus Glanton Johnson.
She is survived by one daughter, Karen J. Bowen and her husband Terry Sr. of Lincolnton; one grandson, Joshua Gantt and his wife Disa of Lincolnton; one granddaughter, Emily Gantt Davis and her husband Timothy of Bessemer City; one brother, Jerry Wayne Smith of Maiden; one sister Juanita Mosteller of Lincolnton; three great granddaughters, Kialyn Gantt, Molly Davis and Chloe Davis.
Services will be held Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at noon at E. F. Drum Funeral Home. The family will receive friends this evening from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at E. F. Drum Funeral Home. The interment will be at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Reverends Todd Garren and Mike Scott will officiate.

Margaret Inez Harless McConnell
VALE — Mrs. Margaret Inez Harless McConnell, age 89, of 1180 Wise Road in Vale died Friday, December 27, 2013.
Her funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Messiah United Methodist Church with Rev. Kevin Miller and Rev. Kevin Costner officiating. Burial will follow in Russells Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. McConnell was born on February 17, 1924 in Lincoln County to the late Albert Milton and Elmer Mae Blackburn Harless. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Alexander McConnell and one daughter, Alice McConnell. She was a lifelong member of Russells Chapel and Messiah United Methodist Church. Mrs. McConnell was a homemaker who loved to cook and enjoyed her family.
Survivors include three sons, Ronald E. McConnell and wife Frances of Vale, William D. McConnell and wife Brenda of Vale, Allen “Butch” McConnell and wife Elizabeth of Gastonia; one daughter, Gail Campbell and husband Dale of Vale; two sisters, Ruby Wyont and Mary Hedgepath; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Margie Beal Self
As 2013 comes to an end, Margie Beal Self made her journey home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 28. Margie was a very devoted, selfless mother, always taking care of her children and always putting them first. Margie lived in Lincolnton for 28 years and had just recently moved back to Lincolnton from her homeplace in Maiden. Living within blocks of her children for the past two years, being with and spending time with her family gave Margie the most pleasure. For the past 19 years she could be found at the fitting rooms in Wal-Mart, perched upon her stool greeting her callers. Many people would make a point when they heard her voice over the PA system to stop by and see her. She loved her Wal-Mart family of co-workers and customers. Her retirement began at age 80 and her goal was to spend more time with family. She was a faithful member of Lawing’s Chapel Baptist Church in Maiden, and was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 114 Lincolnton. Margie was loved by so many and the one word always used to describe her was what a “Sweet Lady” she is, her genuine kindness will be dearly missed in this world. Margie’s legacy will continue on with her children, son, David D. Self and wife, Donna B. Self, daughters, Cissy Self Anderson, Karen Self Hurt and husband, Jeff R. Hurt, of Lincolnton NC grandchildren, Amanda Hurt Hilton and husband, William John Hilton III, of Hickory NC, grandson, Jeffrey Reid Hurt and wife, Kelli Bradley Hurt, Michael B Smith of Lincolnton NC, Jason B Anderson and wife Pam of Amissville VA, and Dana and Kyle Gahagan of Clayton NC, and great-grandchildren, McKinley Ballard Hilton, Hadley Reid Hilton, Levi Anderson, Zoe Anderson, and David Anderson. Her memory lives on through her sister, Colleen Beal Shytle, of Denver NC, and her brother Clifton “Pete” Beal and wife, Vertie Beal, of Maiden NC, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her partner of 32 years, Gene Ricker of Shelby, her Son-in-Law Dwight R Anderson, her brothers, Harold Flint Beal, and Fred Marshal Beal, sisters, Flona Beal Shaw, and Carolyn Beal Peeler, and her father, Claude Gordon Beal,and mother, Lucy Jane Williams Beal.
Her celebration of life will be held in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel in Lincolnton, NC, Tuesday December 31, 2013 at four o’ clock. The family will receive friends following her service.
