Catherine Lucille Byers Avery

 Mrs. Catherine Lucille Byers Avery, age 89, of 782 Old Lincolnton-Crouse Road in Lincolnton died Thursday, December 26, 2013.

Her funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Messiah United Methodist Church with Rev. Kevin Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Methodist Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Avery was born on September 29, 1924 in Lincoln County to the late Lee M. and Minnie Sain Byers.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Carl L. Avery, one son, Carl L. Avery, Jr., two brothers, Samuel Byers and William “Bud” Byers, and one sister Betty Leonard.  Mrs. Avery was a nurse.  She worked and trained at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.  Mrs. Avery then went on to work at Gamble Hospital and Lincoln County Hospital and ultimately retired from Crowell Hospital.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy A. Avery of Vale; two daughters, Patsy A. Tillman of Lincolnton and Susan A. Sutton of Greensboro; two sisters Mary Lee Avery and Sue Jane Sides both of Lincolnton; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Messiah United Methodist Church, 4102 Highway 27 West, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Melvin Thomas Canipe

Mr. Melvin Thomas Canipe, age 85, of 2329 Keener Road, Lincolnton died Tuesday, December 24, 2013.

His funeral will be 2 p.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dwayne Barber and Rev. Ronald Lackey officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. today prior to the service at Warlick Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton.

Mr. Canipe was born on March 6, 1928 in Lincoln County to the late George Marcus and Hattie Mae Hovis Canipe.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Ray Canipe. Mr. Canipe was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Canipe was retired from the textile industry.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Canipe and wife Karen of Lincolnton, Tommy Canipe of Lincolnton; one daughter, Sandra Canipe Hammond; and Randell Kale of Lincolnton; two grandchildren, Adam Hammond and Angela Jean Hammond both of Lincolnton; one step granddaughter, Sheena Mosteller of Lincolnton and step great-grandson, Phillip Mosteller of Lincolnton.

Leonard Roland Hendrick

Mr. Leonard Roland Hendrick, age 80, of 343 Highland Drive, Lincolnton died Wednesday, December 25, 2013.

His funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kathy McAbee officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at Warlick Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton.

Mr. Hendrick was born on May 10, 1933 in Lincoln County and was the son of the late Paul Asbury Hendrick and Edith Long Hendrick.  He was also preceded in death by his wife Shelby Davis Hendrick; son, Timothy Hendrick; brother, Harold Hendrick and an honorary son, Johnny Stamey.  Mr. Hendrick was retired from the textile industry.

He is survived by his daughter, Vickie Hoke and husband, George of Lincolnton; three grandchildren, Colby Hoke of Raleigh, Clay Hendrick of Lincolnton and Katie Hendrick of Lincolnton; three great-grandchildren.

Robert ‘Toad’ Wayne Patterson

Robert “Toad” Wayne Patterson, age 64, of 918 Park Circle, Lincolnton died Tuesday, December 24, 2013.

His funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Pendleton officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. Saturday prior to the funeral at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Patterson was born on December 22, 1949 in Gaston County to the late Glenn and Lurene Hasting Patterson. He worked in the maintenance department at Gaston College for over 32 years.  Mr. Patterson was a veteran of the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Schronce Patterson of the home; his children, Scotty Patterson and wife Mary of Marion, Brian Patterson and wife Julie of Kings Mountain and Jimmy Patterson of Lincolnton, Wendy Patterson Morrison and husband Brandon of Alexis, David Patterson and wife Alie of Shelby; two brothers, Steve Patterson of Lansing, Jim Patterson of Bessemer City; one sister, Ludene P. Stafford of Dallas; ten grandchildren, Josh, Rylan, Kali, Lily, Cameron, Christian, Logan, Madison, Riley and Caden.

Howard Junior Black, 67, of Cherryville died December 25, 2013.

Graveside Services will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.  December 28, 2013. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. at the Carpenter’s Funeral Home, Cherryville.

James H. Parker Sr.

James H. Parker Sr., 89, of Cherryville died December 23, 2013.

Visitation will be held today from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church Family Life Center. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Dorothy D. Derr, 71, of Raleigh died December 21, 2013.

Funeral service will be December 28, 2013 at Tucker’s Grove United Methodist Church at noon with visitation 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Thomas “Tommy” Alexander Collie, 59, of Winston-Salem died December 23, 2013.

The funeral service will be held today at 1 p.m. at Mt. View Baptist Church in Hickory. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory. The family will receive friends today from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Mt. View Baptist Church, prior to the service.

Richard Gilbert Beam

Richard Gilbert Beam, 87, of Cherryville died December 26, 2013.

Graveside services will be held December 28, 2013 at 11 a.m.  The family will receive friends today from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the home. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery.

Jimmy Lee Bridges

Jimmy Lee Bridges, 61, of Cherryville died December 24, 2013.

Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. December 28, 2013 at Cherryville Missionary Methodist Church. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
