Joseph William Scott Sr.
MAIDEN — Joseph William Scott Sr., age 91, of Maiden passed away Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Sherrills Ford. Born November 10, 1922 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late John Walter Scott and the late Carrie Head Scott. Joseph was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving with 1st Infantry Division (Big Red One) from January 1943 to May 1948 in the European Theatre during WWII where he received a Purple Heart. He retired from Boise Cascade Corp. and was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Mountain Lodge #19, Lincolnton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Joseph Scott Jr., Keith Scott and Kenneth Scott; two brothers, John Scott Jr., Garfield Scott; and sister, Dink Clark.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Helms Scott of the home; three sons, Randy Scott of Maiden, Dean Scott and wife Mary of Conover, Steve Scott of Hiddenite; daughter-in-law, Beth Scott; sister, Pauline Fulbright; seven grandchildren, Teresa Scott, Billy Scott, Brad Scott and wife Rebecca, Greg Scott and wife Kim, Brian Scott and wife Ranetta, Brandon Scott, Courtney Christenbury; four great-grandchildren, Avery, Phillip, Josh Killian, Christian and one great-great grandchild, Aubrey.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 26 at 2 p.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden with Rev. Ernie Richards officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Lincolnton. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Burke Mortuary in Maiden prior to the service.

Mr. Bobby Gene Ward, age 74, of Lincolnton died December 22, 2013.

John Ryan Powers, 30, of Newton died December 19, 2013.
A graveside service was held on December 21, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Conover City Cemetery. The family received friends following the service.
