Register of Deeds to offer birth certificates through automated system

Staff report

The Lincoln County Register of Deeds announced Wednesday that the office is now participating in the North Carolina Vital Records automated system. According to Register of Deeds Danny Hester, the new system will allow the office to produce certified copies of birth records for those born in North Carolina from 1971 forward.
The fee for this service is $24 for the first copy and $15 for each additional copy per request. However, certified copies for residents born in Lincoln County will remain at $10.
Hester believes that the automated system will allow officials to better serve the state’s citizens while generating revenue for the county.
“We offer same day service, which allows customers to avoid waiting several weeks for a record to be sent from Vital Records in Raleigh,” Hester said. “With the increase in gas prices, we expect more customers will use this service instead of driving to surrounding counties.”
