Lincoln Charter will kick off its fifth annual Talon Challenge, an event intended to raise awareness and funds for cancer research and for the Jimmy V Foundation, with a game ball run beginning today.
Students from Lincoln Charter will carry Friday’s game ball for its Southern Piedmont 1A Conference games with Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy from the Lincolnton campus to its campus in Denver. There will be a blood drive from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. today at the Denver campus, and from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Thursday at its Lincolnton campus.
The games will begin on Friday with its middle school girls playing in the lower gym at 4 p.m. and boys to follow. The junior varsity boys will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the upper gym with the varsity girls and boys to follow.
The Talon Challenge has raised more than $20,000 for the V Foundation through donations, selling T-shirts, and has also raised many pints of blood, the school said Tuesday in a press release.
ALEXANDER CENTRAL 67, NORTH LINCOLN 27: At Alexander Central, the Knights were held scoreless in the first quarter and to three points in the first half in the North Piedmont 3A/4A loss on Tuesday.
The Cougars led 38-3 at the break, holding North Lincoln (5-4, 0-2) to 1-of-16 shooting in the first half. Chantz Petrie led the Knights with 18 points off the bench.
Davis Miller had 20 points on 6-of-7 from the field for Alexander Central (5-4, 1-1).
ALEXANDER CENTRAL 53, NORTH LINCOLN 10: At Alexander Central, the Knights were held scoreless in the first half in the league loss.
The Cougars led 41-0 at halftime as the Knights (0-9, 0-2) missed all of their 12 shots from the field. They hit just 2 of 28 for the game.
Emily Clay led North Lincoln with five points. Brianna Chapman had 10 for Alexander Central (9-0, 2-0).
The Knights travel to North Iredell on Thursday.
