Iron Station seniors
The Iron Station Senior Citizens will meet 12 p.m. at Ironton Presbyterian Church.

Coalition award nominations
Lincoln County Coaliton of Churches is looking for nominations from the public regarding the Spirit of King Award for the group’s MLK Day in January. Anyone can nominate a pastor, person or group who embodies the spirit of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. For more information on the event, nominations or to secure an application, call Rev. THURSDAY
BBQ event / toy drive
The Denver Fire Department, 3956 N.C. 16 North in Denver, will hold a BBQ sandwich fundraiser 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the agency’s Christmas toy drive. The department is collecting new and unwrapped toys through Dec. 20 at any one of its three stations, also located at 6625 Kidville Rd. and 7748 Tree Farm Ln. Toys may also be dropped off at any Toys for Tots donation boxes located at businesses throughout Denver. Toys will be distributed to the public 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 24. Quilt Guild
Piecemakers Quilt Guild will meet for a beginners class 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Senior Center, located at the Gaston College-Lincoln Campus, 511 S. Aspen St. in Lincolnton. For more information, call Linda at (704) 483-2778.

Singles group

Festival of Trees

Senior dance  
The Gaston County Senior Center, 1303 Dallas-Cherryville Hwy. in Dallas, will host a senior dance 7-10 p.m. for ages 55 and up. Cost is $4. For more information, call (704) 922-2170.

Church choir concert
The Adult Choir at Boger City Baptist Church, 2201 E. Main St. in Lincolnton, will perform the “Joy of Every Longing Heart” at 7 p.m.

Nutcracker
Students from four area dance studios will unite to perform “The Nutcracker:  Beyond the Dream” 7 p.m. at the Citizens Center in Lincolnton. Cost is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. Breakfast with Santa
Asbury UMC, 3097 Asbury Ch. Rd. in Lincolnton, will host Breakfast with Santa 8-10 a.m. for breakfast, crafts and pictures with Santa. Attendants are asked to bring a toy to donate to area children in need.

Christmas bazaar
Boger Wesleyan Church, N.C. 27 East in Lincolnton, will host its 2nd Annual Christmas Bazaar and hot dog sale 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with handmade crafts, jewelry, woodwork and more. For additional details, call (704) 524-9775.

Children’s shopping event

Cat Square Parade                                                                                                                       The 40th Anniversary event will start 2 p.m. at Zur Leonard Rd. in Vale. Lineup is at 1 p.m. This year’s mayor is Zackie Warlick.
