Jimmy Dean Shuford

Mr. Jimmy Dean Shuford, age 51, of 817 Carolina Mills Circle in Lincolnton died on Sunday, November 17, 2013.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Landmark Church. The family will receive friends any time on Tuesday at 306 Green Street or 817 Carolina Mills Circle in Lincolnton.

Mr. Shuford was born on April 7, 1962 in Lincoln County to Mary Goodson the late Mull Shuford.  He worked at Cochrane Furniture.

Survivors include one son Timothy Shuford of Lincolnton; wife, Marsha Taylor of the home; three sisters, Joyce Waters of Vale, Tiny Smith of Iron Station, Pansy Yount of Hickory; three brothers, William Bryant, Bobby Bryant and Steve Bryant all of Lincolnton; mother, Mary Goodson of Lincolnton.

Sue Moose Campbell

Mrs. Sue Moose Campbell, age 80, of the Brian Center and formerly of 2810 Summerow Road in Lincolnton died on Saturday, November 16, 2013.

Her funeral service will be 3:15 p.m. today at St. Matthews United Church of Christ with Rev. Raymond Jachowski officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. today prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Campbell was born on August 11, 1933 in Catawba County to the late Willard and Mozelle Detter Moose.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Eugene Campbell; one son, Terry Gene Campbell; two brothers, Melvin Moose and Glen Moose.  Mrs. Campbell was retired from textiles.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Campbell Beal of Lincolnton; one daughter-in-law, Elaine Gunter Campbell of Lincolnton; three brothers, Leonard Moose of Newton, John Moose of Maiden and Harold Moose of Maiden; four sisters, Barbara Houston of Conover,  Shirley Martin of Maiden, Rebecca Ferriera of Statesville and Wanda Willis of Maiden; three grandchildren, Joshua Campbell and wife Sarah of Manitowac, Wis., Maria Beal Caulder of Chapel Hill and Chad Campbell of Raleigh; two great-grandchildren, Emmaline and Addison Campbell.

James Richard ‘Dick’ Garrett

James Richard (Dick) Garrett of the Town of Stanley entered into rest, November 15, 2013 at Brian Rehabilitation Center. He was 92.

Son of the late Ruth Lackey Garrett and Roy Garrett, he was born on August 27, 1921 and resided in Lawrenceville, Ill. for most of his childhood. After graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind. he joined the United States Army and served in the Army Corp of Engineers as a 1st Lieutenant in Luzon Bay, Philippines during World War II. There he met his future wife, Virginia Wild of Darien, N.Y. who was an Army nurse in the Philippines. They returned to the States and married on November 2, 1946, recently celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Garrett survives at Carillon Assisted Living in Lincolnton.

Mr. Garrett worked for RCA, Bethlehem Steel and AMAX Specialty Metals for over 35 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Attica, N.Y.; Wheatridge, Colo. and Denver. In his younger years he enjoyed running hurdles, bowling, golf, wordworking and playing baseball. He volunteered tirelessly at the Darien United Methodist Church and he loved to fish.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. In addition to his beloved wife, Va., he is survived by his son, Kenneth Garrett (Patricia) and James Garrett (Lynn) of Stanley; daughter, Carol Mulqueen (Thomas) of Hyde Park; grandchildren, Shannon Mulqueen, Meredith Hodges (Mark) and Douglas Mulqueen (Victoria), Edward Gecewicz, Todd Gecewicz, Dara O’Toole; great-grandchildren, Addison Hodges, Connor Gecewicz, Grace Gecewicz, Matthew O’Toole and Emily O’Toole; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Garrett and his sister Betty Deakins.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday November 19, 2013 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, Huntersville. A Christian memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dick’s name to Oxford Masonic Home for Children, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.

Jason Norwood

GAFFNEY, S.C. — Jason Norwood, 31, of 137 Warrior Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.

Born in Boone he was the husband of Jacqueline (Jackie) Jennings Norwood and the son of William Norwood and Ann Pendley Norwood of Gaffney. He was a cable installer and was a Little League Coach for Cherokee Recreation. Mr. Norwood was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife and parents, also surviving is a son, Landen Norwood of the home; a daughter, Abigail Norwood of the home; a brother, Jeffery Norwood and wife, Crystal of Boiling Springs; two sisters, Jessica Norwood Crow of Gaffney, S.C. and Chelsey Norwood of Boone; maternal grandparents, Billy and Patsy Pendley of Lincolnton; paternal grandmother, Betty Norwood of Boone; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Norwood was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Buster William Norwood.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at El Bethel Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:30 p.m. at the church with Dr. Larry Melton and Rev. Clifford Phillips officiating. Interment will be in El Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mattie Jane Williams Roberts, 90, of Greensboro, formerly of Hickory died November 16, 2013.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ebony & White’s Funeral Service, Lincolnton.

 

Kenneth Ralph Jones

Kenneth Ralph Jones, 81, of Catawba County died November 15, 2013.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Willis Reynolds Funeral Home and Cremations, Newton.

 

Charles ‘Henry’ Lowrance

Charles “Henry” Lowrance, 83, of Claremont died November 16, 2013.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service and the funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Claremont. Burial will follow in Conover City Cemetery with military rites.

Vernon Eugene Sigmon

Vernon Eugene Sigmon, 85, of Newton died November 15, 2013.

The funeral service was helde at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Conover on November 17, 2013 at 3 p.m. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service, at the church.

Alda Ree Tolbert

Alda Ree Turner Tolbert, 96, of Maiden died November 14, 2013.

A funeral service was held November 17, 2013 at 3 p.m. at East Maiden Baptist Church in Maiden. Burial followed at Maiden City Cemetery. The family received friends, prior to the service, from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church.
