Mrs. Damon G. Helms, widow of Rev. Albert C. Helms, of Lincolnton left her earthly home on Saturday evening, November 9, 2013 and she is now in the Presence of her Heavenly Father.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Westport Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Young and Rev. Don Greene and Rev. Raymond Hamrick officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. A private burial will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2013.
Mrs. Helms leaves behind one daughter, Susan Collins-Pewitt and husband Marvin of Lincolnton; one son, Dr. Randal Helms and wife Ivy of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two granddaughters, Dr. Ashley Collins-Lee and husband Andrew of Mooresville and Amber Helms Sass and husband Jon of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandsons, Joshua Helms and wife Andrea of Austin, Tex. and Austin Pewitt of Lincolnton; two great-grandchildren, Zander Lee and Lydia Helms and “adopted” son, Silas Risley of Hendersonville.

Mary Ruth Speagle Cannon (Ruth)
CHARLOTTE — Mary Ruth Speagle Cannon (Ruth), 80, of Charlotte, departed this world to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, November 8, 2013. She was born on April 24, 1933 in Laboratory, Lincoln County to the late David Franklin Speagle and Alma Jane Thutherow.
She was a member of Lincolnton High School, class of 1950, Lincolnton. Ruth was a member of the Wesley Fellowship Class at University City United Methodist Church. She moved to Washington D.C. at age 17 to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the Identification Division. She retired from Synetics, Inc. in 1985. She nurtured her life-long love of fiber arts and launched her rug-making business Simply Rugs in 1994. She was an avid reader. She and her husband Bob were members of Dance Masters of America and Dance Educators of America while teaching social dancing. Ruth will be remembered for her love of church and family.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert Jett Cannon (Bob); sons, David Jett Cannon and wife Susan of Lewisville; Daniel Thomas Cannon and wife Diane of Indian Land, S.C., Brett Michael Cannon and wife Anna of Charlotte and granddaughters, Nicole Sophia Cannon and Alexa Jett Cannon, daughters of Brett and Anna.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Jack Defay Speagle and sister, Peggy Ann Speagle Anthony.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at University City United Methodist Church with Rev. Ron Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A private interment will follow at Forest Lawn East.

DENVER — Travis Martin Clark, 30, of 4733 Webbs Chapel Church Road, died Friday, November 8, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Clark.
He attended Adventure in Faith Church of Alexis.
He is survived by his mother and step father, Denise Clark-Brotherton and Jeff Brotherton of Denver; brother, Shane Clark and wife Tina of Lincolnton; niece, Shanna Clark; two nephews, Thomas and Colton Clark.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Clark will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at the Faith Baptist Church, Iron Station with Reverend Ritchie Doss and Reverend Mike Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Mr. Charles Carlos Crowell Jr. of Lincolnton died on Saturday, November 9, 2013.
His funeral will be 2:30 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Wyant officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. today prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery.
Mr. Crowell was born on January 31, 1928 in Lincoln County to the late Charles Carlos and Mamie Lineberger Crowell Sr. prior to becoming the owner of Crowell Sales and Service Propane Gas, he was owner of Triple C Farms, dairy. Mr. Crowell enjoyed woodworking after his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Padgett, “ Bobbie Jean” Crowell of the home; two sons, Charles Carlos Crowell III, MD and wife, Ann of High Point, Robert Lee Crowell and special friend, Katherine Marx of Boone; one daughter, Libby C. Cline and husband, Mike of Lincolnton; three sisters, Doris Spearman of Greensboro, Emily Childs of Newton and Nancy Ramsey of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, Charles C. Crowell IV and wife, Julie, Walton Daniel Crowell and wife, Anne, Micah Elizabeth Cline and fiancé, Derek Exoo, and Matthew Todd Cline, MD and wife, Meghan; three great-grandchildren, Charles C. Crowell V, Cate Lavelle Crowell and Bowen Michael Cline.
