Lincoln County firefighters responded Sunday morning to a house fire near the Lincoln-Catawba line.

According to Cooksville Volunteer Fire Department’s Captain Justin Weinrich, his Vale agency was first on scene at the Cat Square Road residence around 8:30 a.m.

Fire crews from Northbrook and Union Fire Departments responded with mutual aid.

George Hildebran Fire Rescue manned Cooksville’s station and provided backup at the fellow fire agency during the incident, Weinrich said.

No one was inside the home at the time of the blaze, firefighters said.

Cooksville crews met with heavy smoke conditions inside the one-story brick structure but were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

“We saved as much as we could,” Weinrich said.

Catawba County Fire Marshal Mark Petit investigated the incident, whose cause was not available at time of publication.

Additional agencies on scene Sunday included Hickory Rescue Squad and Catawba County Emergency Medical Services.
