Dwight Douglas “Doug” Baker

Mr. Dwight Douglas “Doug” Baker, age 71, of 689 Tallent Road, Vale passed away November 6, 2013.

His funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday November 9, 2013 at Bethphage Lutheran Church with Pastor Fred Mitschke officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. this evening at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.

Mr. Baker was born in Lincoln County on April 27, 1942 and was the son of the late Floyd Osbourne Baker and Estelle Moore Baker.  He was preceded in death by his brother Edward Gray Whitt.  Mr. Baker was retired from Carolina Freight Carriers as a truck driver and was a member of Teamsters Union.  He was a member of Bethphage Lutheran Church.

Mr. Baker is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara “Bobbi” Miller Baker; son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Barbara Baker of Cherryville; son, Andrew “Andy” Baker of Vale and three grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah and Marie Baker; sister-in-law, Judy Whitt of Hickory; two nephews, James and Mark; and a niece, Renee.

James ‘Everette’ Wise

Mr. James “Everette” Wise, of 4443 Jim Wise Road in Lincolnton, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013 after a brief illness.

His funeral service was held 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Daniels Lutheran Church with Rev. Lewis Murdock officiating.  Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Wise was born November 30, 1918 in Lincoln County to the late James Pinkney and Mary Guess Wise.  He was also preceded in death by his wife of over 56 years, Margaret Ballard Wise; son, Steven Edmond Wise; brother, Robert Elzy Wise; and nephew James Wessen Wise.  A World War II veteran, dairy farmer, and mechanic, Mr. Wise’s favorite job was repairing farm tractors for over 50 years in a shop behind the home he was born, and still lived in.  He was on the Board of Directors for the Lincoln County Farm Bureau, a founding member of the Howards Creek Fire Department, and a lifelong member of Daniels Lutheran Church.

Everette is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who adore him.

Marie Beal Wilkinson

DENVER — Marie Beal Wilkinson, age 85, of 4997 King Wilkinson Road in Denver died Wednesday, November 6, 2013.

Mrs. Wilkinson was born August 13, 1928 in Lincoln County. She was the daughter of the late Noah E. Beal and Susan Shrum Beal. Marie was preceded in death by her husband Robert L. Wilkinson and brothers, William Beal and Darrell Beal and sister, Mattie Richard. Mrs. Wilkinson was a retired secretary at R and W Timber Company.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Antioch Baptist Church. Pastor Ernie Richards and Rev. Todd Garren will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include son, Garry R. Wilkinson and wife Sandra of Denver; daughter, Judy G. Sain and husband Warren of Vale; brother, Milas Beal of Lincolnton; six sisters, Evie Lynch of Greensboro, Joyce Mitchem of Lawndale, Queeta Harkey of Lincolnton, Betty Setzer of Lincolnton, Shirley Sigmon of Iron Station and Linda Chambers of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, Robin Smith, Eric Sain, Kevin Wilkinson and Deanna Helms; eight great grandchildren, Halie Withers, Cameron Smith, Jayden Smith, Callie Helms, Ethan Sain, Mckenna Helms, Addison Sain and Wade Wilkinson.

Wanda Gail McClellan Short

Wanda Gail McClellan Short, 67, of Ellenboro, died November 7, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on November 11, 2013 at Crestview Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park of Spindale (formerly Sunset Cemetery). Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. November 10, 2013 at McKinney-Landreth & Carroll Funeral and Cremation Service.

William ‘Bill’ Alexander Russ 

William “Bill” Alexander Russ, 80, of Cherryville, formerly of Las Vegas, died November 7, 2013.

Graveside services will be held on November 9, 2013, at 3 p.m. at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at various times at the home of George Dover.

Robert Eugene Thompson

Robert Eugene Thompson, 70, of Washington, DC, formerly of Maiden died October 25, 2013.

A memorial service will be held today at Glorious Church of God in Newton at 3 p.m.  The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

Xai Pao Xiong

Xai Pao Xiong, 82, of Lincolnton died October 27, 2013.

The Hmong funeral will begin today and conclude on November 10, 2013 at Jenkins Pavilion and Gathering Center in Newton.  Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park on November 10, 2013.

The Xiong family has entrusted arrangements to Jenkins Funeral Home in Newton.
