A Denver woman was taken to an area hospital for surgery Friday morning after deputies said she was found lying injured on a county roadway.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said the Communications Center contacted them just before 3 a.m. regarding the woman.
Deputies located Sherry Jo Tobeler, 54, of 6674 Billie’s Way, in an area on N.C. 150 East near Mack Ballard Road, an agency press release said.
Tobeler gave officers various accounts of how she ended up on the roadway, they said.
Deputies also spent time searching the area for the silver Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck she told them she had been driving before the incident, the release said.
The truck has yet to be located, officers said, even after they sent a description of the vehicle and license plate number — RNW2562 — to law enforcement agencies located within a 50-mile radius of the woman’s location.
Deputies did find the woman’s dog, which had wondered five miles away from her to a home on East Maiden Road, the release said.
After talking with the woman’s husband, detectives learned Tobeler left the residence after the pair had a disagreement around 9 p.m. Thursday.
She was last seen buying beer at the Denver Mart, located at 3769 N.C. 16, the release said.
The woman was transported to Carolinas Medical Center-Main in Charlotte for treatment for her injuries.
Detectives said they have yet to interview her.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help in their investigation of the incident.
Individuals who saw Tobeler anytime between 9 p.m. Thursday and 3 a.m. Friday or who know where her vehicle may be can contact the agency at (704) 732-9050 or the Communications Center at (704) 735-8202.
Lincoln County Emergency Medical Services also responded to the scene to treat the victim for road rash, deputies said.
