The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners will vote on several zoning requests at tonight’s public meeting.

Strata Solar, LLC has requested a conditional use permit to construct a solar power generation facility on the north and south sides of Webbs Road at Burton Lane in Catawba Springs Township. The possible development of the solar farm has brought up much controversy among neighboring residents. County Commissioner Chairman Alex Patton said in an email that the hearing may be postponed.

“It could be delayed a month or so, but unfortunately that decision cannot be made until Monday night at the meeting,” Patton said.

American Tower Corporation has requested a conditional use permit to erect a 240-foot telecommunications tower in the Transitional Residential district. The property is located on the east side of Bill Sain Road, about 2,200 feet east of Cat Square Road in Howards Creek Township. The company is also requesting to erect a 195-foot wireless telecommunications tower on an 11-acre tract on Buffalo Shoals Road in Ironton Township.

A request will also be heard to amend a conditional use permit allowing group digs and camping at the old Reel Amethyst Mine. Presently, the permit limits participation to members of the Mountain Area Gem and Mineral Association and limits digs to four weekends a year. Applicant Francis Sutphin is requesting that other individuals and groups be allowed to participate, allow one weekend dig per month and revise the permit’s parking restrictions. The mine is located on the east side of Timber Road, about 1,000 feet south of Reinhardt Circle in Ironton Township.

The Board will also consider tax requests for refunds over $100 as well as requests for Special Events Fee Waivers.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Citizens Center and is open to the public.
