Taylor Johnson of East Lincoln had the county’s best showing at the NCHSAA state girls golf championships in Southern Pines, which ended on Tuesday.
Johnson shot a two-day, 36-hole total of 183 to finish tied for 18th in the 1A/2A championships. She fired an 86 on Tuesday, 11 strokes better than her Monday score of 97.
Johnson finished 32 shots back of champion Annika Winebarger of Elkin.
West Lincoln’s Ashton Anthony shot a 239.
North Lincoln’s Mary Prunier shot a 192 in her two days of the 3A state championships at Firefox Village. She had a Day 1 total of 93 on Monday and shot a 99 on Tuesday to finish 44th overall. Siranon Shoomee of Lee County won with a 149.
Ledford won the 3A team title with a 498, and Salisbury captured the 1A/2A championship with a 474.
EL FALLS TO THIRD IN AP POLL: Following last week’s trio of forfeits for its use of an ineligible player, East Lincoln fell a spot to third in the latest Associated Press state 2A media poll.
The Mustangs, now 5-4 overall after forfeiting their first three games of the season, are ranked behind first place North Rowan and second place Franklin, who are both undefeated at 9-0.
Rounding out the top 10 are: Winston-Salem Carver (8-1), Reidsville (7-2), High Point Andrews (8-1), Maiden (9-0), Elizabeth City Northeastern (8-1), Monroe (8-1) and Black Mountain Owen (8-1).
East Lincoln and Maiden will play on Friday with first place on the line in the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A Conference. Both teams are 5-0 in league play.
SD-7 ALL-CONFERENCE LIST: The following players from Lincoln County were named to the All-Southern District 7 Athletic 2A Conference team: Brittany Dove, East Lincoln; Nicole Arzuaga, Lincolnton; Amanda Ritch, West Lincoln.
Marsha Davis of Maiden was named the conference coach of the year and Chyenne Pump of Bunker Hill was voted its player of the year.
