Darrell Eugene Hovis

Darrell Eugene Hovis, age 74, of Lincolnton went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 26, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with emphysema.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m., Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Lincolnton. Rev. Dr. Stanley Spence and Rev. Phillip Campbell will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in Hollybrook Cemetery.

Mr. Hovis was born February 14, 1939 in Lincoln County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Namon Eugene Hovis and Cleta Setzer Hovis. Mr. Hovis attended Lincolnton High School. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. Mr. Hovis married Priscilla Goodson on January 29, 1961. He went to work at National Linen in Hickory; after working there for thirteen years, he and a friend bought a little country store in Iron Station, known as the Iron Station Superette. The co- owner’s wives joined the business later where they enjoyed 27 wonderful years at the store. After selling the store and retiring, they traveled together visiting every state except North Dakota. Darrell and Priscilla were active and faithful members of First Baptist Church of Lincolnton. Darrell loved his church, often attending when he was barely able.

Survivors include his loving wife, Priscilla Goodson Hovis of the home; son, Darrin Hovis and wife Karen of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; brother, Ken Hovis and wife Linda of Lincolnton; sister, Gail Calloway and husband Rev. Jack Calloway of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Jason and Emily Hovis of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and his beloved dog, Jake.

Patricia Ann Loftis Jones

IRON STATION — Patricia Ann Loftis Jones, age 72, of Iron Station passed away Thursday, October 24, 2013 at her residence.  She was born December 31, 1940 in Anderson County, S.C. to the late Haskell Z. Loftis and Sadie Terry Loftis.

She was a member of New Faith Baptist Church and a homemaker and mother.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, William “Bill” Jones of the home; three daughters, Robin Jones Canipe and her husband Wayne of Lincolnton, Kristi Brooks Key and her husband George of Alexis, and Sheri Jones Kinlaw and her husband Craig of Mt. Holly; one sister, Rita Johnson and her husband Aaron of Warrenton, Ga.; one brother, Jimmy Loftis and his wife Kay of Iva, S.C.; and seven grandchildren, Logan Canipe, Courtney Canipe Hopson, Hayley Brooks, Grant Brooks, Noah Kinlaw, John Kinlaw, and Eli Kinlaw.

Services were held Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church.  The family received friends Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at E. F. Drum Funeral Home.  The interment is at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pastor Eric Lively and Logan Canipe officiated. Pall bearers were Wayne Canipe, George Key, Craig Kinlaw, Logan Canipe, Grant Brooks, and Noah Kinlaw.

Blonnie Lucille Speagle Scronce

Mrs. Blonnie Lucille Speagle Scronce, age 90, of 3122 June Bug Road, Vale died Saturday, October 26, 2013.

Her funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Daniel’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Lewis Murdock officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Tuesday prior to the funeral at Daniel’s Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Scronce was born on November 12, 1922 in Catawba County to the late Samuel Ruffin and Essie Ann Hafner Speagle.  She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Scronce is survived by three sons, Richard Keith Scronce and wife, Audrey of Vale, Harold Ray Scronce and wife, Donna of Vale and Jeffrey Kevin Scronce of Vale; five daughters, Linda Sue Scronce of Maiden, Carolyn Scronce Whitesides and husband, Sam of Vale, Wanda Scronce McAlister and husband, Ronnie of Lincolnton, Sandra Scronce Wilkinson and husband, Garry of Denver and Mary Ann Scronce Rogers and husband, Don of Clover, S.C.; one brother, Fred L. Speagle and wife, Pansy of Vale; two sisters, Charlotte Speagle Royal of Greensboro and Faye Speagle Hoke of Newton; one sister-in-law, Becky Speagle of Hickory; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Daniel’s Lutheran Church, 3290 Reepsville Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Wesley Michael McMahan

Wesley Michael McMahan, 25, of Lincolnton died October 23, 2013.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. today at Lincolnton Church of God. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on October 26, 2013 at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia. The interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Lincolnton.

Mary Scott

Mary Louise Brittian Scott, 83, of Maiden died October 24, 2013.

A funeral service was held October 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel, Maiden.

Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton. The family will receive friends, prior to the service, from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.

Terry ‘Bud’ Burton Black

Terry “Bud” Burton Black, 63, of Cherryville died October 25, 2013.

A memorial service was held on October 27, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Carpenter’s Funeral & Cremation Services. Burial was private.  The family received friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Carpenter’s Funeral and Cremation Services, Cherryville served the Black family.

 

Julian Boyd Eledge 

Mr. Julian Boyd Eledge, 90 of Lebanon, Tenn. died October 24, 2013.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. October 30, 2013, at High Shoals Memorial Gardens in High Shoals. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Warlick Funeral Home.
