LTN Staff Report
Starting Friday, Lincoln County residents will be able to apply, renew and pay for concealed handgun permits online.
The local law enforcement agency opted to put the applications on their website in order to better serve area citizens, a press release said.
The website also maintains additional features for ordering duplicates of lost or destroyed permits or changing an address.
Gun permits will be handed out by appointment only — scheduled through the application process — and carried out 9 a.m.-noon Tuesdays at the Denver office on N.C. 16 and 1:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Sheriff’s Office headquarters in Lincolnton, deputies said.
Individuals may still apply for permits in person at the agency but must pay by way of cash, check or certified check. To schedule an appointment, call (704) 732-9050 Monday through Friday.
Cost is $90 for a new permit and $75 for a renewal, the release said. No fees will be refunded.
Since January, the agency has administered more than 1,100 new concealed handgun permits, nearly 360 renewals and nearly 80 duplicates, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Sheriff David Carpenter hopes the new online process will allow citizens the opportunity to apply anywhere, anytime.
