An 81-year-old western Lincoln County man was jailed Sunday for secretly spying on his tenants, deputies said.
According to a Sheriff’s Office report, Vernon Boyles, of 5443 West N.C. 27 in Vale, peeped through a hole in the wall of the victims’ living area, located in an separate area of the suspect’s residence.
The incident took place on Sunday, the report said.
One of the victims told deputies he noticed light coming in through the hole, and when he put his eye up to it, he spotted Boyles standing on the other side.
Once the suspect knew he had been caught, he fled the area and turned off his house lights, the victim told deputies.
Boyles has since been released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
He faces one count of secret peeping into an occupied room.
