Cooking class
The Lincoln County unit of the N.C. Cooperative Extension will host “The Cook Smart, Eat Smart Cooking School” 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today through Oct. 31 at the Citizens Center in Lincolnton. To register, call Melinda Houser at (704) 736-8461.

Blood drive
Community Blood Center of the Carolinas will host a blood drive 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at NCDOT, 115 W. Main St. in Lincolnton.

Spay/neuter clinic
Registration for the Humane Society of Lincoln County’s upcoming low-cost spay and neuter clinic will be 1-4 p.m. at 2422 Country Club Rd. in Lincolnton. The clinic will be Nov. 5. Payment in the form of cash or check is due at registration.

Marine Corps event                                                                                                                    
The Captain Jeb F. Seagle Marine Corps League Detachment 1265 will conduct a 30th Anniversary Memorial Service 6 p.m. on the courthouse lawn in remembrance of those killed during the 1983 Marine Barracks attack in Beirut, Lebanon. FRIDAY
Adult health fair    
Personal Care of North Carolina will host an adult health fair 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Adult Recreation Center, 519 W. Franklin Blvd. in Gastonia. Admission is free. A variety of vendors will be on hand including Kindred Healthcare in Lincolnton. Cost is $10. Proceeds will benefit the Lincolnton Sunrise Rotary Club’s projects.

Raffle tickets    
The Lincolnton Lions Club will sell raffle tickets 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in front of Ride-A-Bike Bicycle Shop, 116 Court Square in downtown Lincolnton. Proceeds will benefit the club’s Christmas party/luncheon for the blind and summer program for blind children. A drawing will be Nov. 25.

Singing Convention

“Amy’s Closet” at Amy’s House, a domestic violence shelter, will host a sidewalk sale 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 751-E N.C. 16 in the West Point Shoppes in Denver. Clothes, shoes, jewelry, household items and more will be available. Biscuits, hot dogs and baked goods will be available for purchase.

Yard sale 
Daystar Family Worship Center Church of God, 115 Industrial Park Rd. in Lincolnton, will host a yard sale 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Handgun class  
Lincoln County Board of Realtors will host a concealed-carry handgun training class 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with Instructor Terry Burgin at Lincolnton Sportsman Lodge, Horseshore Lake Rd. Cost is $60. Church concert

VFW Post 1706 will host a Halloween dance 8-12 p.m. with beach, top 40 and country music, performed by Randy Davis (aka “The Doctor). Prizes will be awarded for best and original costume. Cost is $10. Must be 21 to enter. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Post Hospital Transportation Fund for Lincoln County veterans.

SUNDAY
Church centennial       
Emmanuel Reformed Church of Lincolnton, 329 E. Main St., will host a centennial celebration 10:30 a.m. in the 1913 church building. Women’s Day    
The Women of Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate their Annual Women’s Day starting 11 a.m. at the church, located on Mt. Vernon Rd. The celebration will include two services with Rev. Alexis Allen, associate minister of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Salisbury. Rev. Renee McClain, pastor of Poplar Springs A.M.E. Zion Church in Lincolnton, will speak at the 2:30 p.m. service.

Church luncheon    
Boger City UMC, 2320 E. Main St. in Lincolnton, will host a community luncheon 11:30 a.m. with a meat and vegetable combination meal. An $8 donation is suggested.

Propst reunion

Cotton-Picking Contest  
The Lincoln County 4-H Club, People’s Bank and the Lincoln County unit of the N.C. Cooperative Extension will host a cotton-picking contest 2 p.m. Nov. 2 at Victory Grove Baptist Church, Victory Grove Ch. Rd. in Lincolnton, as part of Farm City Week. Participants can also make cotton ball angel ornaments and learn about cotton following the conteste. Deadline to register is Oct. 31. Holiday food event      
The Lincoln County unit of the N.C. Cooperative Extension will present the program “Healthy Holiday Foods” 6:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Citizens Center in Lincolnton. Wreath sale    
The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce is selling 22-inch wreaths made from fresh N.C. Fraser Fir with a red bow and streamer. Cost is $25 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members.
