Police took a former Lincolnton medical doctor into custody late Monday afternoon at his home on accusations he raped a patient more than a decade ago.
John Everett Marshall, 59, of 466 Jerry Crump Road in Lincolnton, was arrested on three felony charges including first-degree rape, conspiracy and sexual offense by a custodian.
Lincolnton Police detectives knocked on Marshall’s door and waited several minutes before he eventually emerged from the garage area just before 5 p.m. and asked officers what was going on.
Detectives said Marshall raped a patient in 1996.
At the time, the woman was receiving care in the emergency room of the old city hospital on Gamble Drive, according to Det. Sgt. Jason Munday.
Marshall had gone to the hospital to check on her, officers said.
Police began investigating the case last year when the victim came forward about the alleged incident, Munday said, and are continuing to look into the possibility of additional victims.
Marshall previously maintained an office on Gaston Street, police said, but has since had his medical license revoked.
