WEST CALDWELL WINS: The NCHSAA said Thursday it has clarified that West Caldwell is the winner of a Southern District 7 Athletic 2A match over East Lincoln.
The match was stopped after about 12 minutes of play on Tuesday night in Lenoir with West Caldwell leading 1-0 when East Lincoln coach Jason Dragoon received two yellow cards.
In an email on Thursday responding to questions by The Hickory Daily Record, NCHSAA Commissioner Davis Whitfield said West Caldwell is the match winner. He said the East Lincoln coach was disqualified and won’t be subject to sitting out any coming matches.
Among the choices game officials in all sports have are to disqualify an athlete or coach, which doesn’t carry a penalty of sitting out future games, or issuing a rejection, which does carry, by rule, a suspension.
The victory improves West Caldwell’s conference record to 11-0-1. The Warriors are in first place with Newton-Conover (10-1-1) in second place.
