Gerald Herbert Abernethy
Mr. Gerald Herbert Abernethy, age 61, of 2023 Modern Estates Road in Lincolnton, died unexpectedly on Sunday, October 13, 2013.
His funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Marvin United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Tate and Rev. Jim Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be this evening from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mr. Abernethy was born March 12, 1952 in Lincoln County to the late Gerald Bain and Margaret Elizabeth Williams Abernethy. He served in the National Guard and then later was an automobile salesman. He served as Scout Master of Troop 76 in Lincolnton for 30 years and loved camping, fishing, antique cars, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Richard Abernethy of the home; two daughters, Kelly Stroupe and husband Jeff of Lincolnton and Lindsey Revels and husband John of Bessemer City; three sons, Gerald Scott Abernethy of Snellville, Ga., Gerald Herbert Abernethy II of Richmond, Va., and Christopher James Parker of the home; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Sandy Huss of Lincolnton and Terri Brackett of Crouse.

Henry Dale Sigmon
DENVER — Henry Dale Sigmon, age 82, of Denver (Pumpkin Center) left his earthly life and ascended to the Father on Sunday, October 13, 2013. The beloved husband and father was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Lincolnton and a native of Catawba County, born in Newton on September 30, 1931 to the late William Lawrence Sigmon and Flora Lee Johnson Sigmon.
He graduated Balls Creek High School in 1950 and served in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic from 1950 to 1954. After service, he attended Lenoir Rhyne College and in 1959, earned a BSBA in Accounting with a minor in Education. He was awarded his CPA and worked for A & M Pullen and Company in Charlotte before joining Stewart & Everett Theaters as the Executive Vice President, Comptroller and Treasurer. He was awarded a 40 year Honorary Membership in 2006 by the AICPA and was a member of the NCACPA. He was also a lifelong member of the GOP.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Dale Sigmon, and two brothers, Dennis Sigmon and Eric Sigmon.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Jean Poole Sigmon; loving daughter, Tamela Michelle Sigmon; two sisters, Hilda Sigmon Deal of Valdese and Madlyen Sigmon Carter of Maiden; and one brother, Steve Lee Sigmon and his wife Joyce of Maiden.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The interment will be in the church cemetery. Pastor A. Curtis Paul will officiate.

Susan Swindell, 47, of Lincolnton, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013 at her home.
Mrs. Susan had worked at Carteret General Hospital, Down East Medical and as an LPN at Carolina House prior to moving to West Virginia.
She loved the outdoors especially hunting, fishing and gardening. She also loved doing crafts, and she was always helping people whether she knew them or not.
She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Bryan Swindell of the home; son, Linden Hazelton of Lincolnton; stepmother, Becky Woofter of Middleboune, W.Va.; father and mother-in-law, Walter and Margaret Walrath of Newport; one brother, three sisters; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Woofter.
The family will receive friends 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. this evening at Munden Funeral Home.

Melvin Raymond Welch Jr., 46, of Lincolnton died October 12, 2013.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Heavenly View Baptist Church, Iron Station. Burial will follow in Maiden City Cemetery. The family will have a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mary Jane Brown Thompson, 84, of Cherryville, formerly of Bluefield, W. Va., died October 13, 2013.

The family will also receive friends at Dudley Memorial Mortuary, Bluefield, Va. on October 18, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and funeral services will be held October 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Dudley Memorial Mortuary, Bluefield, Va., with burial in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
