Lincoln Charter wins Duel for Diabetes Cup


Lincoln Charter on Monday won the Duel for Diabetes Cup, a week-long competition between seven area charter schools to promote awareness of juvenile diabetes.
The competition included Community School of Davidson, American Renaissance, Queens Grant, Pine Lake Prep, Mountain Island Charter and Sugar Creek Charter. The schools hosted blood drives, sold T-shirts and donated money towards the cause.
The Eagles were able to raise close to 100 pints of blood and $1,000.


LINCOLN CHARTER 3, THOMAS JEFFERSON 0: At Lincoln Charter, the Eagles defeated Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy 26-24, 25-13, 25-18 in the first round of the Southern Piedmont 1A Conference tournament.
Christina Famulari had 11 kills, Hunter Mullis had 10 assists and Haley Hubeli added 12 digs.
The Eagles played Community School of Davidson in the semifinals on Tuesday.
LAKE NORMAN 3, NORTH LINCOLN 1: At Lake Norman, the Knights were knocked out of the North Piedmont 3A/4A Conference tournament on Monday 16-25, 27-25, 25-27, 15-25.
Lyndsi Pound and Savannah Dishman had 10 kills each, Chandler Keller had 25 assists and 19 digs, Tressa Amico had seven blocks and Olivia Loeffler had 26 digs.
North Lincoln (14-10) will open the NCHSAA 3A state playoffs on the road on Saturday at a team to be determined.
The NCHSAA will release its state playoff pairings on Thursday.


NEWTON-CONOVER 2, LINCOLNTON 0: At Newton-Conover, the Wolves suffered their first Southern District 7 Athletic 2A Conference defeat of the season and fell from second place to third in the league standings.
Lincolnton (8-1-2 SD-7) hosts West Lincoln today.
MAIDEN 2, WEST LINCOLN 1: At West Lincoln, the Rebels fell in a SD-7 match. No other details were reported.
The Rebels (0-10-1 SD-7) travel to Lincolnton today.
THOMAS JEFFERSON 6, LINCOLN CHARTER 1: At Lincoln Charter, the Eagles fell in a SP1A match.
Tony Minaudo scored an unassisted goal for Lincoln Charter, which was outshot 22-10. Keeper Isaiah Smith had six saves.
The Eagles (10-7-0, 2-4-0) travel to Community School of Davidson today.


EAST LINCOLN REMAINS SECOND IN AP POLL: The Mustangs remained in the No. 2 spot in this week’s Associated Press statewide high school football media poll.
East Lincoln (6-1) trailed undefeated North Rowan (7-0) and was ahead of third-place Franklin (7-0).
Rounding out the top 10 were Winston-Salem Carver (6-1), Reidsville (5-2), High Point Andrews (5-1), Elizabeth City Northeastern (6-1), Shelby (6-2), Maiden (7-0) and South Granville (6-1).
No other area teams were ranked.
