A western Lincoln County man tried to abduct a 12-year-old girl at a bus stop Tuesday morning, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies charged Ernest Carroll Rose, 63, of 5543 Bill Sain Road in Vale, in the incident.
Rose is accused of asking the child for her name, among other questions, before inquiring if she would go with him, an agency press release said.
The girl was sitting at a western county bus stop at the time but immediately fled to a neighbor’s home and contacted 911 about Rose, deputies said.
She described the suspect to officers who later located him just before 6:30 a.m. walking along Bill Sain Road, the release said.
The child suffered no injuries in the incident.
Rose, whom deputies said lived about 100 yards from the stop, has been charged with one felony count of attempted child abduction.
He remains in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $75,000 secured bond.
