Devante Clark ran for 239 yards and two TDs and Landon Hammer completed just three passes, all for scores, as Alexander Central blew open a close North Piedmont 3A/4A Conference game late in the fourth quarter for a 32-13 win over visiting North Lincoln on Friday night.
Ahead by a touchdown, Hammer hit Jeremy Brown for a 13-yard scoring pass to make it 25-13 with 3:42 to play. Alexander Central (3-3, 1-1) put it out of reach nearly 2 minutes later when Clark scored on a 3-yard run to go up 32-13.
Clark opened the scoring with an 80-yard run early in the first quarter. J-Mo Thompson answered for North Lincoln on a 1-yard score to tie it at 7.
Hammer made it 13-7 on a 43-yard TD pass to Lawson Bowman. The Knights tied it again on a 1-yard run by Chase Caldwell with 1:50 left in the first half. Fourteen seconds later the Cougars went ahead for good on a 61-yard scoring strike from Hammer to Bowman.
Ethan Gram led North Lincoln (1-5, 0-2) with 69 yards rushing. Richard Jackson had 57 yards and Thompson 43.
Caldwell was 8 of 11 passing for 89 yards and an interception. Jeremy Brotherton had three catches for 34 yards and Taylor Woodby added two receptions for 28 yards.
Hammer had 117 yards passing.
It is the fifth straight year the Knights have begun conference play with back-to-back losses.
