Huitt Reep

KINGS MOUNTAIN – Milton Huitt Reep, 80, passed away Thursday, September 27 after a year-long battle with leukemia.  He was born April 30, 1933, as the fifth of eight children to Pearl and Jones Reep of Lincoln County.  Huitt is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ann Lantz Reep, of Kings Mountain; son, Mike Reep and his wife, Sharon, of Raleigh; son, Mark Reep and his wife Kelley, of Cary.   He also has four grandchildren; Emily Reep, Casey Reep, John Reep, and Jojo Reep.

A graduate of Union High School in Vale, Huitt was a veteran of the U. S Army in the Korean War.  The G.I .Bill allowed him to attend Appalachian Teacher’s College in Boone (now Appalachian State University) where he obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education and went on to teach elementary education in Gastonia.  He then changed careers, first attending the Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Administration, and then leading hospitals in Burgaw, Sanford, Smithfield, and Kings Mountain.  He was a lifetime member of the N.C. Hospital Association; a thirty year Rotarian; a Paul Harris fellow; and an active volunteer with the American Red Cross,  Habitat for Humanity, and as a member of Central United Methodist Church.

After retirement, Huitt enjoyed beekeeping, farming, golfing, and working part-time for the U.S. Postal Service.  He also stayed very involved with his extended family through Reep, Rhyne, and Lantz reunions.

The family will receive friends, today from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m., at Central United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain. Funeral will be held today at 2 p.m., at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Rex Gibbs officiating. A private family burial will be at Daniels Lutheran Church Cemetery

Michael ‘Bubba’ Joseph Rhyne

CROUSE — Mr. Michael ‘Bubba” Joseph Rhyne, age 57, of Hephzibah Church Road in Crouse died Saturday, September 28, 2013.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Rhyne was born June 26, 1956 in Anchorage, Alaska to Sarah Frances Boyles Rhyne and the late Bobby Joseph Rhyne.  He was self employed in construction.

Survivors include his wife Robyn Phillips Rhyne of the home; one daughter, Laura Michelle Fredell and husband James of Lincolnton; one brother, Gregory Rhyne and wife Donna of Dallas; four sisters, Sarah Tallent and husband Louie of Cherryville, Sheila Johnson and husband Ray “Radar” of Vale, Selina Stone and husband John of Tex. and Stephanie Rodriguez and husband Raul of Cherryville; one grandson, Kevin Avery Fredell and numerous nieces and nephews.

Walter Warlick, Jr.

08/12/1925 – 9/26/2013

Walter Theodore Warlick, Jr., 88, of 760 Rockdale Road, Vale, entered peacefully into life eternal on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at his home.

Walter was born in Cleveland County on August 12, 1925 to the late Walter Theodore Warlick, Sr. and Lessie Lawrence Downs Warlick.

He served in the US Navy during World War II on a destroyer escort vessel in the European Theater.  He returned home and started the family business, Warlick Brothers Dairy, Inc.
Walter was a life-long active member of Norman’s Grove Baptist Church.  He served his church in numerous capacities including deacon, church secretary and Sunday school teacher.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Warlick.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ida Iwilla “Witts” Mull Warlick; four daughters, Jane Moss and husband Steen of Denver, Lois Lineberger and husband Bob of Lincolnton, Gail Anthony and husband Linny of Vale and Beth Bechtold and husband, Karl of Newton; six grandchildren, Carrie Moss Morgan and husband Pat, Will Lineberger and wife Alesha, Mary Heather Lineberger and Lydia Lineberger, Sarah Katlyn Anthony, and Walt Elmore;  two great-grandchildren; Anderson Lineberger and Sawyer Morgan; two brothers, Ray Warlick of Vale and Troy Warlick of Casar; four sisters, Mary Lou Davis of Shelby, Cecelia Miller of Lenior, Margaret Harbison of Webster Grove, MO and Phyllis Miller of Huntersville.

Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, September 27, 2013 at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Norman’s Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Huss and Rev. Cecil Buff officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Dell T. Shook

Virginia Dell Teaster Shook, 89, of Catawba died September 28, 2013.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Hudson Chapel Baptist Church, Catawba. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Harold Gene Moore 

Harold Gene Moore, 56, of Waco, died September 25, 2013.

Funeral was held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Carpenter’s Funeral and Cremation Services.  Burial followed at City Memorial Cemetery, Cherryville.  The family received friends from 2 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

Carpenter’s Funeral and Cremation Services served the Moore family.
