The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a break-in involving masked intruders, who used a sledgehammer to access a city store on Friday.
According to an agency report, thieves broke into the Dollar General, located at 3701 Gastonia Highway in Lincolnton, around 2:45 a.m.
When deputies arrived at the property, they said they spotted a broken front window.
However, all doors to the business remained locked.
The culprits were also no longer at the scene, deputies said.
A short time later, a store manager responded to the scene to review surveillance footage that had been taken at the store with officers, the report said.
The recording revealed an individual using a sledgehammer to break the store window.
The individual did not work alone, the report said.
Surveillance showed three individuals at the scene.
Deputies said the suspects also pulled up to the property in a white SUV.
After entering the store through the broken window, the suspects also attempted to break into some store equipment but failed, fleeing the building, the Sheriff’s Office said.
No items were stolen in the incident.
The suspects were described as each wearing a hoodie, a bandana over the face and gloves.
It is not known which direction the SUV left the business, deputies said.
No arrests have been made in the case at this time.
