‘Jimmy’ Deaton Jr.
MAIDEN — James (Jimmy) Vernon Deaton, Jr., 68, of Maiden passed away Monday, September 23, 2013 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory.
Born April 18, 1945 in Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Vernon Deaton and the late Edna Brooks Deaton. Jimmy was a member of First Baptist Church in Maiden and member of the Maiden High School Boosters Club.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Teresa Deaton of the home; three daughters, Lisa Deaton Koperski and Michael Glover of Maiden; Candice and Mitch Hawkins of Granite Falls; Jamie and Daniel Smalling of Maiden; two brothers, Ronnie and Julie Deaton of Maiden; Reggie and Gaye Deaton of Maiden; one sister, Wanda and Ronnie Finger of Maiden; four grandsons, Jacob, Anthony, Cias and Erick; three granddaughters, Brooke, Gracey and Ava, one great-granddaughter, Maria Bella and one uncle, C.B. Brooks of Midland.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 27, 2013 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Maiden with Rev. Eddie Andrews officiating.
The family will receive friends, Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Maiden.

Helen Stephens Howie
STANLEY — Helen Stephens Howie, age 74 of 823 Killian Farm Road in Stanley, died on Monday, September 16, 2013.
A graveside service was held at 12 noon on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 in the Martha’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Kincaid officiating.
Ms. Howie was born August 1, 1939 in Iredell County to the late Floyd Newton and Maggie Hazel Grabb Stephens. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Van Walter Stephens. She worked in textiles.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Roscoe Howie and Ricky Dale Howie, both of Pumpkin Center; two daughters, Regina Howie Allen of Stanley and Karen Howie Smith of Iron Station; three brothers, Floyd Wesley Stephens and Paul Newton Stephens, both of Stanley, and Robert Lewis Stephens of Denver; three sisters, Nettie Stephens Helms and Ann Stephens Tucker, both of Charlotte, and Kay Stephens Small of West Palm Beach, FL; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Martha’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

Donna Lee Keech Finger, 58, of Maiden died September 22, 2013.
A Memorial Service was held Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 3 p.m. at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Maiden. The family received friends, prior to the service, from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church.
