Pate Marcus Brendle
Mr. Pate Marcus Brendle, age 79, of Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville following a lengthy illness.
His funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Harvey Blume officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Brendle was born October 4, 1933 in Lincoln County to the late Voyd and Zula Propst Brendle. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Brian, Joe and Jim Brendle; and a sister, Geneva Black. Mr. Brendle served in the United States Army and then later worked as a machine operator for Comm-scope in Claremont. Following retirement, he enjoyed various hobbies, including gardening, collecting and selling antiques.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hazel “Bobbie” Heavner Brendle of the home; a daughter, Belinda Wilfong and husband David of Newton; two granddaughters, Alicia Wilfong of Hickory and Michelle Kelly and husband Kris of Summerfield; three great-grandchildren, Mia Kelly, Kaden Kelly, and Kinsley Kelly; one brother, Steve Brendle and wife Sue of Vale; three sisters, Camilla Daniels of Winston-Salem, Gladys Grose and husband Huitt of Forest City, and Ann Costner of Morganton; and many nieces and nephews he was very fond of.

Joseph Matthew Brooks
Joseph Matthew Brooks, age 79, of 3106 Startown Road, Lincolnton passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice.
His funeral will be noon on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Marvin United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Tate officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 11 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.
Mr. Brooks was born August 12, 1934 in Gaston County an area known as “Bungalow” to the late Ralston Ulric and Margaret Roberta Lay Brooks. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Vetta Grey Benfield Brooks, a brother, Glen Brooks, and a sister, Margaret Curtis. He retired as a special projects manager for Spanco Yarns in Bogata, Columbia.
Survivors include: three daughters, Carrie Jane Jordan, Linda Diane Smith and husband Michael, and Sarah Virginia Jenkins and husband Bruce, all of Lincolnton; two brothers, Robert Edward Brooks of Asheville and Harold Stephen Brooks of Pumpkin Center; one sister, Rev. Mildred Snell of High Point; four grandchildren, Emily Lackey, Jacob Lackey, Tiffany Beam, and Jeremy Smith; and five great-grandchildren, Logan Norman, Dylan, and T.J. Beam, Khristian and Gabriel Garcia.

Lois Elizabeth Reep
Lois Elizabeth Reep, age 92, of 805 Grier Street in Lincolnton, died on Tuesday, August 27, 2013.
Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Bethphage Lutheran Church with Rev. Fred Mitschke officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2013 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Miss Reep was born November 3, 1920 in Lincoln County to the late Luther M. and Hattie Friday Reep. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one nephew and nine brothers and sisters. She worked in textiles and also was an Avon representative.
She is survived by nine nieces; three nephews; seven great-nieces; ten great-nephews; ten great-great-nieces; seven great-great-nephews; one great-great-great niece; and one great-great-great nephew.

John Victor Withers
STANLEY — John Victor Withers, 57, of 704 Mariposa Road, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, August 28, 2013.
He was born in Gaston County, son of William Smith and Frances Lineberger Withers. He was preceded in death by his wife Donna Slemp Withers. Mr. Withers graduated from East Gaston High School in 1974 and graduated from UNCC with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1978. After graduating, he went to work for Duke Power where he met his wife Donna. He was an accountant and general manager for the Woodshed in Stanley. He was a member of Stanley Masonic Lodge #713 and the Oasis Temple of the Shrine. He was a faithful member of Stanley Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as head usher.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter Brittany Withers Milstead and husband Matt of Mount Holly; one son, John Michael Withers of Stanley; grandson, Ryland Milstead; two brothers, Bill Withers Jr. and wife Donita and Colin Withers and wife Renee; one sister, Jeana Neill all of Stanley.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Withers will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Stanley Pentecostal Holiness Church with Reverend Dr. Danny Penny and Reverend Eddie McGinnis officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the church.
