Christina Famulari had five kills and five blocks and Erica Mullis added two blocks and four digs as Lincoln Charter’s volleyball team remained unbeaten following a 3-0 win at Highland Tech in the teams’ Southern Piedmont 1A Conference opener on Tuesday.
Set scores were 25-12, 25-22 and 25-19.
Hunter Mullis had four aces and six assists, Tessa Carr had four kills and six assists and Madi NeeSmith had five kills and three digs for the Eagles (2-0, 1-0), who host Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy out of Mooresboro on Thursday.
NORTH LINCOLN 3, ALEXANDER CENTRAL 1: At Alexander Central, the Knights picked up their first North Piedmont 3A/4A Conference win. Set scores were 25-23, 22-25, 25-21 and 25-10. No other details were reported.
North Lincoln (3-1, 1-1) hosts West Lincoln in a non-conference game today.
MAIDEN 3, EAST LINCOLN 0: At Maiden, the Mustangs fell in the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A Conference game. Set scores were 25-20, 25-21 and 25-19. No other details were reported.
East Lincoln (1-1, 1-1) travels to West Lincoln on Thursday.
LINCOLN CHARTER 3, QUEENS GRANT 0: At Lincoln Charter, the Eagles won their season opener on Friday in straight sets 25-20, 25-16, 25-12.
Hunter Mullis had seven aces and nine assists, Madi NeeSmith had five kills and three digs, Haley Hubeli had six digs, Tessa Carr had four kills and Christina Famulari and Meghan Smith added three blocks each.
LINCOLNTON 3, HUNTER HUSS 2: At Lincolnton, the Wolves stayed unbeaten with the non-conference win on Monday.
Anthony Abonza scored from about 20 yards out with 13 minutes left for the win. Christian Sandoval had Lincolnton’s first goal three minutes into the match and Jeffrey Perez scored on an assist from Alejandro Cerdas at the 38-minute mark for a 2-0 lead.
The Wolves (2-0) had 12 saves in goal.
FRED T. FOARD 6, NORTH LINCOLN 3: At North Lincoln, the Knights fell in the non-conference match. No other details were reported.
North Lincoln (0-3) travels to Bandys today.
SHELBY 5, EAST LINCOLN 4 OT: At Shelby, the Mustangs dropped a close non-conference match in overtime on Thursday.
Riley Stein had a hat trick but the Golden Lions scored a pair of goals in the second 10-minute period of overtime to rally for the win.
Garrett Reavis scored on a penalty kick in the first overtime period to give East Lincoln a 4-3 lead.
The Mustangs (0-2) travel to Hunter Huss today.
WILSON MAKES 75-MAN ROSTER: Lincolnton native C.J. Wilson made the official 75-man roster for the Chicago Bears when they released one more player before the deadline on Tuesday.
The Bears have one more preseason game –– Thursday at home against the Cleveland Browns –– then must trim their roster to the 53-man minimum by Saturday afternoon.
If Wilson, who graduated from Lincolnton High in 2008, makes the 53-man roster, he could see his first regular season action on Sept. 8 when the Bears host the Cincinnati Bengals.
