Denver firefighter indicted for sex crime

Staff Writer

A grand jury indicted a former Lincoln County firefighter Friday on sex-related charges involving a child, the Clerk of Court’s Office said.

Landon Kirk McMahon, 21, of Catawba Burris Road in Denver, is accused of inappropriately touched a 12-year-old family friend in early 2012.

Denver Fire officials said the suspect worked with the eastern Lincoln County agency as a basic EMT and firefighter starting in April 2011.

McMahon was indicted this month on one felony count of first-degree sex offense by an adult offender, clerk officials said, but was previously indicted in April 2012 on two felony counts each of indecent liberties with a child and first-degree sex offense of a child.

The first indictment came a month after his arrest. He was released on an $8,000 secured bond.

The alleged sexual misconduct took place at the suspect’s home in January 2012, deputies have said.

Prior to his arrest, McMahon had a clean slate with the department and no disciplinary issues, fire officials noted.

The department immediately placed him on administrative leave with no plans for further disciplinary action until completion of the judicial process.

McMahon’s last appearance in Superior Court took place on Aug. 12. Clerk officials said he is scheduled for another hearing on Sept. 9.
