Deputies: Man at-large who cashed fake checks in three counties
A man is accused of cashing fake checks this month in three area counties including Lincoln, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The agency issued a press release Tuesday asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect, whose image was recorded on one of the location’s video surveillance systems.
Sometime between Aug. 13 and Sunday, the man allegedly cashed four checks totaling nearly $2,000 at places in Denver, Concord and Charlotte, deputies said.
The owner of Willis Plumbing Company in Vale contacted the Sheriff’s Office after noticing the fake checks had been written on his business account.
Deputies said the owner grew suspicious after he discovered one of his vendors never received a payment he had placed inside his mailbox.
Anyone with information on the suspect or incidents is asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division at (704) 735-8856 or Crime Stoppers at (704)736-8909.
Callers may remain anonymous, and any tips leading to an arrest may receive a reward of up to $1,000.
