Narcotics investigators seized nearly a quarter ounce of cocaine Friday from a western Lincoln County man’s residence following a six-month long investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Rafael Juaves Martinez, 50, of 4315 Baxter Road in Cherryville, was charged in the incident.

Deputies searched the man’s house on Friday after securing a warrant, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A call to the county’s Drug Tip Line prompted the investigation.

In addition to locating the illegal substance, officers said they seized $1,300 in cash from the residence.

Martinez was charged with one felony count each of possession of cocaine, possession with intent to
manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance, maintaining a dwelling/vehicle for a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance on the premises of a penal institution.

He has since posted a $10,000 secured bond.

Deputies expect to charge more individuals in the case in the near future as an investigation continues, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Drug or other criminal activity can be reported to the Drug Tip Line 24/7 by calling (704) 736-8606 or (704) 736-8422.

Deputies investigate every tip they receive.
