Dorothy Workman Carpenter

VALE — Mrs. Dorothy Workman Carpenter, age 92, of Vale, died on Friday, August 23, 2013.

A graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Kevin Miller on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Cemetery.

Mrs. Carpenter was born in Vale on July 16, 1921, daughter of the late W.T. and Ellen Freeman Workman.  She graduated from Union High School.  Mrs. Carpenter was a dedicated wife and was preceded in death by her husband Ervin Carpenter.  She was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Carpenter is survived by nieces and nephews.

Graham McAllister Caskey

IRON STATION — Graham McAllister Caskey, age 86, of Iron Station passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be private.  The family will host a reception at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 405 N. Poplar Street in Mr. Caskey’s honor.

Mr. Caskey was born in Gaston County on October 30, 1926, son of the late Charles Clay and Ida McAllister Caskey.  He worked for Lincoln County as maintenance supervisor before retiring.  Mr. Caskey also served his country in the United States Navy as a Sea Bee during World War II.  He was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Caskey; four brothers, Clay, Sam, Dickie, and Johnny Caskey; and two sisters, Charles Alexander and Martha Bennis.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Rhyne Caskey; one son, Robin Caskey and wife Pam of Lincolnton; four daughters, Carol Conner of Lincolnton, Ellen Lingerfelt and husband Wally of Iron Station, Pam Huskey and husband Tommy of Lincolnton, and Jan Caskey of Iron Station; two brothers, David Caskey and Andy Caskey, both of Iron Station; three sisters, Mary Peeler of Denver, and Peggy Bartholomew and Pat Bradshaw, both of Iron Station; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Huskey, Lyndsey Conner, Chris Huskey, Kelsey Lingerfelt, Kane Lingerfelt, Kandace Caskey, and Kendall Caskey; and one great-grandson, Caleb Beard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ironton Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 129, Iron Station, NC  28080, or to the Lincoln County Democratic Party, P.O. Box 1661, Lincolnton, NC  28093.

The family would like to thank the staff of Brian Center in Lincolnton for the wonderful care given to Mr. Caskey.

Ruth Ann Houser Hoover

GOLDSBORO — Ruth Ann Houser Hoover, 93, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at her home.

Ruth was born in Lincoln County on December 28, 1919 to the late William Lee Houser and Ethel Childress Houser.  She was married on December 24, 1941 to the late Major Thomas R. Hoover Sr.  Along with her husband, they owned and operated a realty company in Goldsboro, Gallery of Homes.  Ruth was a member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service of remembrance at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Dr. Bob Fulkerson officiating.  Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Thomas R. Hoover Jr. and wife Carol of Emerald Isle and Garry H. Hoover and wife Sabrina of Raleigh; daughter, Brenda H. Noah and husband Robert of Dunnellon, Fla.; grandchildren, Thomas R. Hoover III and wife Amy, Abbey C. Noah and husband Jason, Rachelle M. Hoover-Plonk and husband Warren; Christopher S. Hoover, and Madeleine D. Hoover; and great-grandchildren, Samantha R. Hoover, Katelyn D. Hoover, Clara W. Smith, Rowan G. Smith, and Madeline M. Plonk.  She is also survived by two sisters, Pauline Beam and Madge Kane.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard D. Hoover and wife Diane.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her memory to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515.

Grace Ewing, 97, of Lincolnton died August 25, 21013.
Arrangements are incomplete at Burke Mortuary, Maiden.

Russell Lester Campbell
Russell Lester Campbell, 81, of Maiden died August 24, 2013.
Funeral services will be held today at St. Matthews United Church of Christ at 4 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will have a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

Joyce ‘Faye’ Mace Fore
Joyce “Faye” Mace Fore, of the Boger City Rest Home in Lincolnton, died August 22, 2013.
Her funeral service was 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Southside Baptist Church cemetery.  The family received friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home..
